There is nothing new under the sun.

Yes, I heard you the first time. It is from the Old testament, I know that. Found it: Ecclesiastes. How lovely, actually!

I saw that wisdom is better than folly,
just as light is better than darkness.
The wise have eyes in their heads,
    while the fool walks in the darkness;
but I came to realize
that the same fate overtakes them both.

Control as an illusion, is not absolutely true. I would however like to reduce the odds in those instances we are provided with a clear direction. Surely that beats accepting inevitable doom of all manner of wasteful purposes and wishing one was never born?

And about that article about the Chinese train knife attackers. That isn't really the same thing. That was deemed a terror group waging "holy war". It doesn't apply to the loner man with mental health issues with high capacity magazines opening fire in an elementary school.

This is more interesting for a comparison: School attacks in China which accordingly, began in March 2010. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_attacks_in_China_(2010–12) :

As the Chenpeng school attack was followed by the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in the United States hours later[2][3] comparisons were drawn between the two. The difference in gun control laws between the two countries was used to explain the disparity in casualties of the school attacks by journalists and politicians, including U.S. Representative Jerry Nadler,[4][5] and an article in the Associated Press noted that despite the different outcomes, an underlying commonality between the attacks was the increased frequency of school attacks because, "attackers often seek out the vulnerable, hoping to amplify their outrage before they themselves often commit suicide."[6]

I am going to let the Federalist papers wait for today.  I am in a celebratory mood. And I fear, for this "Tyrant and Dummy", they will do for me what Thoreau does for Ruger1. Could we just make that, "benevolent Tyrant, please?"

I do wonder, now, if you do lead your family in night maneuvers? It would seem you would feel it your duty, to me. I also gather that any one not prepared to be called up for militia duty must be a traitor and no one will cry if they are shot on sight. One less. Just what the inevitable will call for?

The point was not to draw a strict parallel, but instead to demonstrate that even in the most controlled of environments, the idea that we are any safer is an illusion, gaining little. China, N. Korea, Saudi Arabia, and Iran are all countries in which the state goes to great lengths to control. These places are far from being considered "safe". People will kill when then wish to kill. We are not, and never will approach perfection, and in that, violence isn't going anywhere anytime soon. That would take significant changes in our DNA, literally, which takes a "bit" of time. What we stand to lose through the careless, myopic, short-sighted, and convenient quest for a utopia that is never coming, are aspects inherent to the human condition which make life worth living -namely freedom and liberty.

And I fear, for this "Tyrant and Dummy", they will do for me what Thoreau does for Ruger1. Could we just make that, "benevolent Tyrant, please?

Sometimes a title is just a title, as is the case here.

I do wonder, now, if you do lead your family in night maneuvers?

Hardly, lol. What we the people stand to gain in the practical sense absolutely pales in comparison to what we stand to lose in the ideological sense. We must never forget who we are, why we are, where we have come from, and where we may so quickly return without the vigilance and purpose required to sustain what may so easily escape us. We are a young nation; I believe we easily loose sight of that, and the bigger picture.

This must be told by our brothers and sister in Christ.

How can a normal Christian keep their mouth shut is beyond me.
