I just found out - Costco only carries this dog food in Texas and the Bay Area.  Also, I found out, Salmon meal prices have doubled and don't expect the low price to hold beyond March.  This is all due to a shortage of Salmon meal.

"due to a shortage of Salmon meal" from the post above.

This is due primarily to an ever decreasing supply of salmon. Both in this country and other European countries that have salmon, there are many things affecting the salmon supply, including disease. One other fact most people do not think about is the amount of mercury in fish. Feeding some fish in a diet is probably not a big deal, but feeding a fish based diet all the time, especially to pregnant females or pups is, in my opinion, perhaps not such a great idea. There are strict guidelines on the human consumption of fish, just for this reason, although most people do not know about those guidelines.

hodie - thanks for elaborating.  Costco told me there was a shortage and didn't say why.  They estimate that by June/July they may carry the brand in other parts of the country.

besides feeding raw, i use totw salmon. angus got itchy on the bison. i will check out the costco brand. i've been able to get totw for about $39 at a feed store, but, geez, dogs are expensive to feed when you try to give them the best you can. if i can save a few bucks, that would be great!

I am buying food on the Royal Canin Breeders' Program.  I pick it up at the warehouse which is across the street from my workplace.  All the dogs are doing great on it, and I pay only $52 CAD (that's Canadian) for a 33 lb. bag.  I'm quite happy with this arrangement.

In Canada, you have to register with RC as a bonafide kennel, ie., have a business name, and then you can set up a wholesale account.  It is a very good program.  In Europe, we were paying $60 Euro for the same size bag and 1 Eruo is about $1.60 CAD.  Do the math.

Just a reminder for Diamond feeders. They have had recalls on their food before. I feed raw so its not much an issue for me but would be if I fed kibble more often.

Im curious to know of the food is or is not 4d food (human grade meat vs non human grade) Since Im aware of the salmon issue (which actually started last year) I wont jump out and get it since its most likely going up in price.

I actually went and got a Costco membership tonight just so I could try the dog food. lol  But it turns out I should've read the posts first to realize I couldn't get it here on the E. Coast.  Well I needed dog food and I figured the Kirkland brand had much better ingredients than the Sam's Club I was using.  I haven't been happy with the quality change in the Sams Brand but didn't want to go through wasting money trying different dog food again since my 1 dog gets the runs with a lot of the one's I've tried.  The Kirkland's seems much better for them so we'll see how well he does tomorrow when I start it....
For the money it's a hell of a deal for 40 lbs.

Hopefully they'll get the other brand in eventually.  If not, I think I like Costco's a lil better than Sams.  The meat is definately better quality and I always thought Sams was excellent.

I have been feeding it and the dogs love it .. I wanted to try it since TOTW is mad by diamond and so is this stuff. I like TOTW but the price is killer. Good results and the dogs like it coat looks good too. We 3 of ours on it 3 on Canida and 3 on royal canin.. So i like them all but i am willing to try new foods since i and one who wont recomend it to a customer if i have never fed it. I am not a Diamond fan for there cheap foods but this is pritty good.
Cosco also has a green bag of lamb and rice that is ok food for people who dont have a ton of money to spend.

Kibble is a dehydrated mix of plants and meats that has 10% moisture. If raw meat were dehydrated to 10% moisture, the protein content would be 55 to 60%.
So you can imagine how little meat kibble with 20+% protein has (in addition some grains have protein too decreasing the meat content further). I don't feed any kibble that has less  than 40% protein.

I  picked some up tonight in Modesto, and some Kirkland. I can't afford TOTW till I get work. My dogs did well on Kirkland last summer, but the TOTW really puts nice coats on them.
They are doing really well right now, gaining weight and getting fit.
