Good event and perfect Texas fall weather - 75-90 or so degrees.

I have met Dan at the Nationals among others, these last few days and spoken to him a few times. Very nice, polite and friendly and outgoing kid. Great for him, his club, helper and supporting "crew" and congratulations.

I have filmed some videos (random dogs obedience and protection, whoever happened to be on the field when I felt like filming) and will post in a few days.

Rocky Germelhouse was a very nice dog, same with his littermate Rasta that took 3rd place. I was most impressed with a dog handled by a gentleman named Mike Diehl, forgot the dog's name, all black. I only saw his protection part, but... That is one damn good dog.

Dog Branco handled by Carlos Rojas is also a very nice dog, as well as a dog handled by Dana Palumbo. Now... helper Jim Laubmeier was good, but the other helper I did not like at all. Just my opinion.

These are just a few of my observations.

That's quite an accomplishment considering the strength of the field... many many good dog/handler teams.  Stiff competition indeed.  Well done!

I think that this is a super accomplishment for this young team. If, indeed, this is Dan's first sport dog and the dog is 1/4 show lines, all the more remarkable! Let's hope that, during the coming year, Chuck completes his BS, competes at the USA SS, and becomes a dream Universal Sieger in 2009.

Louise, Maybe you should contact Dan directly with the suggestion. The Sieger Show is not too far from him (illinois and he trains in Kentucky), and the Nationals next year may also be in Illinois. So, relatively convenient. :-) I hope more dogs that have actually trialed in USA trials prior to the SS declare for the Uni title. But, no doubt, there will be another bunch of "pretenders" next year, too. Can't wait to see which VA dogs make the phoney declaration-hopefully none of the pretenders from this year will dare to fake it twice.

Nia, I don't know Dan personally. However, I think that his accomplishment with Chuck is fantastic. It is refreshing to see someone (with a non-gray dog) on the top of the podium other than the professionals.

I don't really care if Universal candidate dogs have trialed prior to the SS. The actual proof is in the pudding--JMHO. As for the "pretenders", who wants the reputation of flaunting a bogus pudding?

"Non-gray"? I was at the Nationals and the only non-gray dogs I saw were some bi-colors, a couple blacks and 2 show lines. Dan's dog looked like "just another working dog" to me and very strong and impressive. I had no clue that he was part show lines until it was mentioned here--he didn't look it. :-) I will ask some folks in the Mid-east region to encourage him to pursue Uni/Sieg. :-) As for who wants a rep for flaunting a bogus title, i.e. falsely declaring for Universal Sieger, well, there were 12 who declared this year and only THREE who actually followed through to qualify. Only TWO went the distance. Do the math. :-) I hope Ravi and Juneau go for it again. I know thr plan is for Ule to make a run for Uni in Canada next year, so US may be "been there, done that." I hope that USA judges Nathaniel Rogue and Bill S go for it, as well. They have very strong, impressive dogs, too.
