I have a Hyundai Entourage Minivan now.  The nice thing about this is that the side door windows come down just like a regular door vs. just popping out.  It's so much more dog friendly than the Subaru I had prior to it.  Granted the Subaru got the job done for 5 years though and I beat the crap out of it with driving. Right now I'm only getting about 20 mph with it, keep waiting to get up the 25 highway it says!

I just bought a '94 Chevy Suburban, just for hauling around dogs.  It is the best vehicle for that purpose that I have ever owned, plus I got it for a hell of a good price.

Vonder: what's the real life mpg of that Honda Odyssey?

When you fit four dogs, you mean four friendly dogs who are crateless, I assume?

I am on my second Chevy AWD astro van. LOVE IT. # dogs and 110 pounds of equipment. About 21 mpg on the highway.

They stopped making them in '05. Trying to decide what my next vehicle will be

Our "dog trailer" is a cargo trailer we ordered and have set up with dog boxes.  We can use it for many more things, even extra stuff when camping.  It's nice in wet weather as you're not tracking muddy boots  or wet clothes into your vehicle.   We have six big big dog boxes and lots of storage of other stuff.  Hooks for hanging leashes, collars, harnesses, tracking lines, balls, and tugs.  More hanging space for sleeves and outer wear.   Side windows and top roof vent.  Crate fans when warm with buckets of ice for added cool.  Double back doors open at training gets good airflow yet more privacy for the dogs.  Enough room to change clothes inside if need be.  Plenty of room to store chairs.  And comparable price to a single function dog trailer. I love our dog trailer.

Just got a used dog trailer (4 hole), and I really like it.  It is aluminum diamond plate, a Crow River model, and is very light.  It's about 10 years old, but works well.  I'm sure a small economy car could tow it, which is exactly what they do over in Europe.  I like trucks too, but let's face it, they are gas hogs.  Here in the good ole USA we often end up traveling long distances to dog train and trial.  That ends up being a lot of money after a while.  Right now I'm towing my trailer with a Jeep Cherokee (which isn't an economy car), but will soon get a small car, and try the towing.  Does anyone out there (in the USA) tow with a small economical car?

My Honda Element is an excellent dog-mobile.  There is not carpet or leather in any of the interior.  Plastic and rubber mats in back.  You can hose it out if you want.  The side doors open wide on both sides and the back completely opens up.  You can't beat this vehicle for ventilation.  I keep the sun roof open all the time to let the hot air vent out and I never have to close it  - not even when it rains.  The sun roof is designed to be cracked open without letting any water get inside.

I get 22 mpg even in the city.  It's got outstanding safety ratings.  Front airbags, side airbags, side impact beams.  Full time AWD.

Plus it's got a really bitchin' 7 speaker sound system and I can plug in my iPod directly to the stereo system.  :))

i agree with schbabe, the Element is perfect for the dogs. A friend of mine owns one and she can pack a house in it and hose it out.

The Element does sound enticing.........................

And also, my dogs get along very well together, that is while I'm looking at them............

I was wondering, with the trailers, that have dog boxes, do the boxes heat up when you are parked,
do you have to take everyone out as soon as you reach your destination?
