Jl073

I'll keep an eye on it, After you mentioned it I had him sit a couple of times on my way out the door this morning and both times he sat square not sure if he's just getting a bit lazy in a longer sit or what? I'm definitely going to have his hips and elbow x- rays done. I was waiting until he turned 2 but I may make an appointment earlier it's got me wondering now.

They generally grow out of it eventually. I've always found doing Obedience training for Heelwork and Sits helped straighten it up.

He has his basic obedience down solid on and off leash. I'm used to training hunting dogs labs and greman shorthairs, so I'm hoping it's more my fault letting him get away with a somewhat sloppy sit. I'll see if I can't get that looking better this weekend really working a squared sit off the heal and keeping it square. Thanks for the insight!

What am I missing? Is the birthdate not 2013 on the papers shown?

Nevermind...I get it now. The 2 pedigrees are the parents', which makes more sense. I can't even begin to read the sire's ped. but the dam's is European mix, like Susie said. I see American lines in that dog, though...curious to see what the sire lines actually are.

An imageSorry for the bad pic at the top, since finding this site I've learned to read the pedigrees a little better. From as far as I can tell his sire is pretty much American bred. I definitely don't see near the titles or OFA certified hips and elbows like I do on his dams side at least the first few generations anyway. I plan on having Dukes hips and elbows x rayed but was wondering do I wait until he's two or can I have it done now? Heres a better pic from the sires pedigree hopefully.

Ok, I'm not crazy :) The dog is 1/2 American. Pet lines, don't see any champions. Thanks for the better pic.

You CAN check his hips any time you want, but it's not something I would do for no reason.

Jenn, you are right, I was wrong - I only looked at the second pedigree pic, thought it´s the dog in question.
Stupid me...

So the fatherline is American ( as far as I am able to read the names ),
and the motherline is a European mix.
That´s even more interesting... I´d call this pedigree "multi culti" .

In case your dog doesn´t show signs of discomfort I´d wait with the x-rays until he is 2 years old, doesn´t make sense to x-ray twice.

Thanks for the replies, he has never shown any signs of discomfort or anything like that, i wouldn't have even thought twice until it was mentioned the way he was sitting in the pic, i hope the way he's sitting is just bad on my part and has nothing to do with bad joints.

I'm wanting to get with a trainer and see about some more in depth training he's highly intelligent and loves to work and learn, but my knowledge is limited to the basics sit, stay, down, heel, come leave it, and off. Oh and the extremely annoying shake my son taught him, that's my favorite!

How about retrieve?? Best of luck with him and I hope you enjoy every moment with him. Nan
