Correct to a degree.
It's been called CPV2a, CPV2b and now CPV2c.
CPV2c was first diagnosed in ©2006 and CPV was first diagnosed in 1979

I admit that "more than 30 years" was a bit of an overstatement. But, CPV2c was first reported in Germany in 1996 and first confirmed in Italy in 2000. It's a mild variation of CPV2b and several studies conducted so far couldn't establish the claim that EVEN CPV2a vaccines aren't effective against CPV2b or CPV2c.

Still manufacturers don't hesitate to claim that ONLY their brand of vaccine is effective against the newest strain.

Further, if any vaccine is claimed to be able to destroy mother's antibodies, don't you think it's too strong for a 6 weeks old pup?

"Further, if any vaccine is claimed to be able to destroy mother's antibodies, don't you think it's too strong for a 6 weeks old pup?"

Absolutely.

I would never vaccinate at that age. It's likening to some rescues (and some are well known in the UK) to neutering/spaying...  https://www.doglistener.co.uk/neutering/rspca.shtml at that age!  That is absolutely disgraceful and irresponsible.

My last pup [Border Collie] I had vaccinated at 10 weeks, 12 weeks and then Parvo only at 16 weeks,

a booster 12 months later and next one at 3 years old. After that I will have them titred.

Puppies we keep back for ourselves do not get vaccinated until 12 weeks of age and only once (parvo and distemper) and 16 weeks (rabies by law). I don't go out of my way to socialize since I feel a stable puppy will turn into a stable dog as long as it doesn't have negative experiences. However I DO bring the pup along with me on errands and doing day to day stuff, when we go in public places I never let my pup walk on floors, instead it rides in shopping carts until vaccinated and has developed immunity.

If you're in a HIGH RISK area you could always do a titer test before vaccinating to ensure the vaccine is necesary and will not be blocked by maternal antibodies...

I recomend to others to follow the Dr. Jean Dodds protocol http://drjeandoddspethealthresource.tumblr.com/post/147595920886/dodds-vaccination-protocol-dogs-2016#.V40tNrgrLIU.

If you have time and want to learn further about vaccination here are some great videos, but, very long!

If I was getting a pup at 10 weeks old, I would let it settle first for a few days, then I would vaccinate it as I have 2 other dogs and God knows where they run off to sniffing everywhere.

TBH it's what your situation is. Most fields around here woods, heath & moorland are walked in/on by other dogs. So better to be safe than sorry.

The last pup I said about, I forgot to say she remained with the farmer and his wife until she had her 2nd vax at 12 weeks old. So she was hopefully fully covered when we picked her up at 12 weeks old as a week and a half later we were going on holiday for 8 days down to the coast. My GSD and other BC, both had vaccination boosters done earlier before us all going to the coast.
