One of the basic decisions to make is show line vs working line. Generally speaking if you rank protection ability more, get a working line and if you think showing your dog is more to your taste, then get a show line. Do a search of the forums to obtain a broader discussion on the topic.

I can't say much about the bloodline, since I'm not so familiar with SL blood. But, if I encountered with the same problems as yours, I will check some little things / faults that often forgotten to check.

The bite (under / over / normal), tail (normal / gay / kinked), testicles (descended / not), legs (cowhock & east west or not) & many other little things that often forgotten. When checking or choosing a dog, we sometimes only focused with the main points like character, angulation, head, pigmentation, movement etc. And tend to forgot about the other small things.

Oh and btw how old the pups now? Since some aspects can't give final judgement if the pups still too young. Oh and if you plan to show your dogs, and after you checking all the points, and both pups are equally same or have little difference, you may want to check your pups parents progeny to compare, and also check if some of them carry inherited disease. Don't forget to look for a long coat carrier gene also.

But, for myself temprament is the main points. I only compare those little things if both pups I have to chose is equally same in temprament. Believe me, you don't want your gorgeous red & black SL dogs, or a macho sable WL dogs, going tail tucked when someone or other dogs approach him. Hope you'll find your right dog!

Get a bird. African Grey. Great watch dogs, excellent talkers and will last 6x as long.

You don't want a German Shepherd. Trust me. You don't. They shed a lot, have bad health, and cost a ton in bet bills. Get an African Grey parrot and you can die together. Trust me, parrots are better watch dogs than German Shepherds. When it starts to freak out, grab your gun. Better awareness of their surroundings than dogs.

If you want to win at shows you will need a show line. If you want to win at taking down intruders you will need a working line. If you want to play at both pull a nice, well bred young adult from rescue.
