Let's see it is the one with the iMac , Intel Duo core chip, but it is at its limit with system 10.4 ... I think it was. I have the system disc for OS X 10.2.

Can't remember how old exactly!

Have you tried this to boot from the install disk?

On startup with the CD in drive Press the "Command," "Shift," "Option" and "Delete" keys at the same time. The Mac will boot from the CD.

No, I've never heard of that one before!!! I will give it a try. Right now....my fingers are crossed...!

Ahhh the agony of defeat!  Not working, same old spinning, and spinning. It is still very lost.

One really doesn't hear much about mac viruses, so I'm thinking it was the flash download was incompatible, and now it seems I am running out of options.

I was hoping there was something else to try since it is older and xtra, (just that the boy is missing it). Won't the LED give me clues if not the solution?

So, is this it do you think? Am I at the end of my rope?

Have you tried this?

Command-Option-P-R : Erases PRAM if held down immediately after startup tone. Your machine will chime when it’s erased the PRAM, most people will hold this combination for a total of 3 chimes to really flush the PRAM out.

Yes, I only get one chime!! I think I'm just screwed. I even rummaged around and found a hardware test disc to boot from, but I can't get it to recognize any disc!  I have a system 9 disc I can try, but it seems like I have hit a wall.

  ...LED time?

Are you sure the disks you have tried go to that computer, because the other computers disks will not work. Just checking.

by beetree on 10 February 2012 - 19:02

Well, I've had Macs for a while, so maybe I'll try the system 9 anyway. I'll be back.

No good.  Thanks for trying to help me, by the way.

Very frustrating. I have no more discs to try.   I think somebody has to open this up... but you maybe don't think it should be me?

I just don't see opening it is going to help. You can always try to do what was suggested in the tutorial you posted and I would actually be curious to know if it works. BUT, I am not suggesting you try it unless you feel comfortable taking it apart. If it doesn't work you can always buy a real computer.  :)
