Wow, Baby Eagle, that sucks! We are so totally lucky to be on high ground. I've had to work through all this, so I haven't had the chance to get out & document the stuff around here. There's a little valley I normally drive through between 2 big mountains....well, I've had to find a different route the last few days because the entire valley was under water. And it's a superfund site, with big piles of toxic slag that was being washed away down the Lehigh River!! And that is nothing compared to what's been happening up around Wilkes-Barre, Sullivan, Lycoming, & Luzerne counties are all devastated.
Well, it looks like the levees held up there, still so very many cannot yet return to their homes. But everyone is helping everyone out. That's the part of Pennsylvania that I really like, the small town 'can do' attitude. And how we look out for each other. So I hope everyone is all right, I hope Handy shows up OK, safe & sound.
Yay, PA! jackie harris

This here is the only south road to my house, and even then it's 24 miles away. Unbelievable. How am I supposed to see my parents ? Horseback ? LMAO

Edit: Kalibeck, ya this is epic for my area, like 1780's epic. Maybe there is a God ? I dunno, but we better find this Handy Muhammed. Or I'm convinced, again.
YAY America !!! Ron Paul 2012 !!!

Seriously people, what should I do about the 2 Buffalo ? Should I drop it, or printed in the local Paper ? Those Buffalo didn't have to die ya know. I think someone should be held accountable.
Would I sound crazy if I printed it in the paper ? (lol) Seriouslt, would I sound crazy ?

BabyEagle, I don't think you're crazy for being upset about the bison... Is it possible, though, that there really wasn't high enough ground they could be safely moved to? 'Cause if the odds were, say, 60-40 that they'd end up drowning, then I'm all for the pre-emptive euthanasia, not only for their sake, but from a general community health point of view. Two large decaying carcasses are certainly not needed as the area tries to clean up from this mess. :(
What's the situation in the Allentown/Lehighton area, have you heard? I remember the last time there was major flooding of this scale in the Wilkes-Barre area, and it WAS quite a while ago...I was in junior high, the local church collected clothing donations to send out there and our classes volunteered to sort it all and then pack it up. I remember thinking how glad I was that we lived far enough away from any bodies of water that floods weren't anything I had to fear.
As far as getting to your folks, I think a rubber raft or a canoe would be a better choice than a horse...who knows what's lying underneath the water that could tear up the horse's legs? In fact, scratch the rubber raft--a canoe or a small rowboat, I think that would be your best bet.
Good luck....

-- WHAT ? I wouldn't go threw the water with a horse, I wouldn't have too. I'd just be trespassing on everyones lands. (lol) Don't worry though, I know who would shoot me and who wouldn't. (lmao)

Oh, well if you wouldn't need to go through the water, you could probably take an ATV over the same route you'd take a horse, eh?

No. I wish.

As a matter of fact, when I was young, the road I posted to my house was the horse and ATV trail... now that you mentioned it.

Ah, I see. Guess it's horseback or nothing for you, then...hopefully the rains finally stop for good (at least for a few weeks!) and you get your roads back again. I suppose you folks still had corn in the fields, which are now under water? I've still got second-cutting hay laying down, waiting to be raked & baled, because we cut it two weeks ago and then started get just enough rain every other day to screw things up. Hoping to get it up tomorrow.
