Yes, the owner is looking for more money. But after dealing with idiot contractors all week who almost killed Trigger by propping the back gate open with a crowbar after being told many, many, many times to KEEP THE GATE CLOSED my patience is wearing very thin. I went ballistic when I saw Trigger out in the middle of the road and fired all of them. Bad week.

Now I'm done with the owner. He said because I won't pay more for Maya ($500) it means I don't care and wouldn't take care of her. I'm sitting here in tears that is so insulting. Nobody knows the money I spent on Bear before I had to put him down. And I got him for free. I would do the same for any dog in my care. And I know many others would have done the same.

Dear, she wasn't your dog;  your dog is still out there. You will find him/her. We'll be waiting to hear all about it. My current dog just happened into my life after 6 different homes; she is a great dog. It will happen to you too.

triodegirl, that stinks, both for you and Maya. Maya will almost certainly end up dead in Florida because her owner is a greedy fool. However, this also means that you will save another dog who would otherwise die.

I think the owner was getting a sick kick out of jerking you around. I've seen this before. The worst case I ever saw was a scumbag who fabricated a retired police K9 that she supposedly had and was threatening to kill unless she found him a good home right away. Decent people would call her and frantically offer all kinds of things to convince her to give them the dog. No home was good enough, according to the scumbag, the dog was better off dead, blah blah blah. It finally became obvious that she was--literally--crazy, there was no retired K9, and she got a sick thrill out of tormenting kindhearted people.

This is why we like dogs so much better than most people.

This guy is a con artist. He's playing on your emotions to get as much $$ out of you as he can. There are other dogs out there and most will be nicer than this dog, I promise. The right dog will come along for you :-)

I sure as ,,,,,,,, wouldn't.. take the dog in and return it. Shoot, if anything happened to the dog he may just wish to sue you.. BE CAREFUL!

triodegirl, this really does suck, and I know how broken up you are over this, because even though she wasn't your dog, you'd already let her into your heart...and that self-identified 'evangelist' is a poor example of a 'pious' man, to try and leverage the life of an innocent dog in order to fill his pocket--and his kids aren't a viable excuse for that behavior, either, because there's no doubt that he'll do the same with them when it benefits him.

I'm with Blitzen--it appears this wasn't the dog you're supposed to rescue right now.  Maybe it's one of Steph's dogs--she's got those two new females she saved from being euthanized, for example.  And UglyDog's got a post on here about a female at risk in Kansas City...maybe she's the one you're meant to redeem.
