VKGSDs

I am not one that cares for complicated food and supplement regimens.  So far all of my dogs have been very healthy on the food I use with no toppers or supplements, but because it has been SO dry and cold here, everyone was getting a dry coat, very dry flaky skin, and itching constantly.  My dogs have no known allergies or other conditions, just terrible dry (and I'm feeling the same).  People suggested a fish oil but I had no idea what to get or how to give it.  Then my friend gave me this bottle of salmon oil for dogs.  You just pump it out like hand soap onto the dog's food.  I give each dog like 4-6 pumps a day and within a week their dandruff was gone and their coats looked much better.  I don't have to measure anything or be giving pills, just pump it over their kibble.  They love it too.  That's all I've been using and see 100% improvement, no other supplments or coat conditioners needed.  Even my 4 month puppy who is still just getting his black top coat (he's a dark sable) now looks fabulous; he was terribly dry two weeks ago.

This is what I got:

I have used an oil call Omega Dog before. It works very well.

I have also use Canola oil with added ALA(omega3)... I would put about 1 teaspoon on the dogs food 3-4 times a week. It did seem to help.

The Omega dog oil is really really good. It is Camelina oil.

Anybody uses codliver oil? My dog has dry skin as well but not that severe at all. They sell codliver oil at my local feed store and I was thinking about buying some.

James
You are torturing your Dog by giving it Cod Liver Oil
I know this to be true because our Mum used to make us Kids get down a teaspoon of Cod Liver Oil every morning before we went off to school, I suffered for around 11 years of this morning ritual. From 1944 at 4 years old to 1955 when i said enough is enough
Did it do us any good, Well we always kept well very few Colds as Kids. But it was punishment every morning it tasted Vile, But i think we had much to thank our Mum for a very small Lady but a will of Iron

lol @ Steve, sounds like you had a post traumatic flash back. What often tastes good to dogs may not necessary taste good to us for example my dog likes the following: horse hoof trimmings, fish heads, occassional poop, corn beef, the blood from another dog in heat, the list goes on and on.

so not quite torture, lol

Hi Bob,
I get compliments all the time about my dogs coats looking good, when they're not shedding..lol
It's as simple as an egg mixed in their dog food once a week, and half of a can of salmon on another day mixed in their kibble.
Everyday they get a little cheese (Kraft singles) and they live outdoors.
A little fatty meat is also added to their dry kibble once or twice a week.
Dogs get dry skin indoors and during the winter months, also if they spend too much time in a kennel.
I do not use anything on their coats and do not give them baths, only a brushing when needed.
My way offers more benefits than any pill could ever match in my opinion and it's gotta be cheaper as these are household food items that we buy anyway and always have on hand.
Maddy has puppies right now and they too will be fed in this manner.
Good luck with the dry skin,
Two Moons.
