I was at the NASS in Madison yesterday (Sunday) for the progeny groups and the working dogs classes. I must say that there were a lot of high quality animals there. Congrats to Steve Miller for putting on a well run, impressuive show. I liked the German judge's work also. It was great to see double Sieger Yasko Farbenspiel from just a few feet away and I thought he was a very beautiful dog. Thanks to Bill Fleischer for doing the impossible and making this happen. Also, I was simply amazed at how great VA Kevin Murrtal looked (the photos of him that have been published before, in my opinion, do not do him justice at all and I hope that Bullinger Kennels posts photos of him that accurately portray his quality). What a terrific thing for Bullinger Kennels to acquire this beautiful Select dog for the North American breeders to use (not to mention what an accomplishment it is to acquire Kevin in and of itself!--I was surprised at how Kevin has become so deeply attached to his new owner that he didn't want to take his eyes off of her and wanted only to be at her side--making his double handling look easy). I thought VA Wildmarken's Tito and VA Nero Zenteich of Mittelwest looked great (much better than any photo of them previously published and their progeny looked very nice). When my friend and I arrived early Sunday AM we both noticed this intensely pigmented black and red bitch on the other side of the parking lot and grass field. She was drawing a lot of attention from others in the parking lot, too. We both looked at each other and said something like "what bitch is that one over there!", and agreed she stood out from the other dogs, impressively alert and simply beautiful--great drive and movement just moving back and forth on the lawn. I told my friend that I couldn't remember the last time I had ever seen a bitch this fine and he agreed--she always went into a natural stance, and needed no setting up. Later on we found out she was Mittelwest's Bella II and when she went VA2, we both remarked, yep we knew she was fantastic the minute we first saw her--it was obvious to many spectators and the crowd response for her was as wild as it was for VA Kevin Murrtal (which was unbelieveably wild). Congratulations to Julie Martinez and all of the Mittelwest team for showing a lot of very nice dogs. We were surprised at the deep quality of the American Bred dogs. This was a real treat to see so many beautiful well trained dogs in one show ring this close to Minnesota.

Howdedo, Fedor is still owned by Abdullah and Vijay Singh. He did very well there I understand.

Thanks Mathaus. I was confused because the results showed Dietmar Nohe as owner. He did very well indeed.

congrats on an American breeding a V A dog is always in order. it will be as exciteing when the first American breeder gets the VA 1? or did this already happen? Lars and Lucie? if these top males are continued to be imported it will happen more often. importing will continue to be important to keep the lines from being bred too close, and to use them as those in the rest of the world have to correct the problems that come with breeding. it was just a while back when the depth of quality was limited to the first 3 to 5 dogs in the classes, with some classes lacking in quality in all entries. I don't think breaking away from the imports should be considered at this time. when the judge ask the American breed to go around the ring, it could have had two points. one to bring attention to the well bred American bred, and another for the astute eye to see those left were German breed. who had in many classes won the 1st placeing, and more.

I stand corrected, my notes stated some critiques, some i wrote, some i had others write when i was busy. Apparently the judge said the 18-24month class was his best class thus far. The top 10 were very nice in the 12-18 male As for Lars and Lussi, Gem, as i have said before.. very awesome Wilhendorf breedings! I cannot recall their placing in Germany but as we know very much deserved VA in the states for both of them. You can see it in their progeny Regards, Dawnmarie
