I know who Donna is....she might remember me and my old man Ranger (who is now 11).  I remember when she got Jackson as a wee babe.  Not sure how she'd feel about my Shepherd and I intruding on the world of the Malinois xD

MarHaven is one of the few american show kennels that produce outstanding, sound dogs who can work. not just schutzhund, but herding, tracking, service ect.  there are other kennels who breed this too, but not enough.  Marhaven just stands out to me because I always admired GV Boss and his progeny.

I hope there will be more who start working their dogs.  Xeph, thanks for posting that info and photo.

I have a young GSD - http://britagsd.blogspot.com/   - in training for PSA but am doing lots of other things first ... you just train for the sport you want regardless of the breed.  :)

Good Job to her!
I agree, it's wonderful to see someone working her pup.
I bet she had many people tell her it could never be done, probably a dark cloud of negative stigma floating above her head....but she went out and did it anyway! Kudo's to her.

This is a great step in the right direction, regardless of the quality of the work (for all we know it was flawless) the dog still has it's Sch1 and that is a true testament of dedication and likely very hard work. Sch is by no means an easy sport to learn and train in, even with a dog specifically bred for it!  I bet this girl had to work very hard for her title.

What a fantastic example she is setting for the AM GSD, I only hope others  follow suit as well.

As for all dogs being able to do ScH?

It is my opinion that not all dogs have the nessecary drives and will to do the work. If just any dog could do sport work....why wouldnt the police/military just use mix breed's dying in the shelter? It certainly would be FAR more cost effective for our government.

While training and enviorment are indeed a factor with ANY type of dog training, genetics are equally important.
If you spend enough time and money, you can likely train most dogs for most types of work (exmaple, an AmStaff herding sheep or a JRT doing ScH) but that does not mean they can do the work efficeintly or even well and it does not mean all other littermates of the said dog (or majority of breed members) can even do the work.

I dont think this AM GSD has proved anything, but the dogs owner has proved that there are indeed people out there trying to utilize the breed for one of its original purposes......and that brings hope.

Well, just got an email back from this dogs co-owner, Noroda kennel.  He did NOT receive a SCH1.  He has the training, but there were mistakes and he did not receive the title.  I believe it was a handler mistake.  but anyway, he does not have a SCH1
