This dog "Dallas" was pretty legendary in the American Show ring and from what I've heard his temperament had similar attributes of those found in a working dog.   http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/509439.html

If the dog looks like  his back end was run over by a truck...then I'd say you can pretty much bet that it is a good example of the A.G.S. dog.   JMHO

cheers!

Dallas also had his herding certificate, and, according to one poster on this board, who saw him herd, he had an excellent work ethic, and looked like he could herd all day, even though he was (I believe ) 8 years old at the time.

Too bad he died so young....

When trying to show different lines, I generally use this website, www.shawlein.com/The_Standard/Index_Page/Index_Page.htm

There is a great page that shows the different GSD types, and well as related breeds. It's a god starting point: http://www.shawlein.com/The_Standard/13_Breed_Type/Breed_Types.html

I have nothing too much against the Am. GSD, and tend to take the (unpopular) view that when any aspect of any breed's standard is taken to extreme without emphasis on a clear head and maintaining working ability, bad things happen. I've seen some decent Am. GSDs, and I've seen some so over-lengthened and weak in the legs it couldn't stand on its hind legs fora hug without sagging down onto its hocks like a kangaroo. Yuck.

This is an American Male, a bit more the Am. "type" than the one you showed above. Of course, the stack is over-stretched, but at least you can actually get a feel for his bone-structure because his right hindleg isn't flat-hocked on the ground.

[edit: oh yes, and the dog above is has a CH title, and is a MALE]

That dog with the junior is NOT a good example of a show GSD (IMO).  Piano Man is ok, but overdone for my tastes.

He needs a better head, but I've always liked "Moe"

And a nice bitch, "Bridget"

Lenlor's Maximus....all male, let me tell you xD

MarHaven's Color Guard was also a nice dog

Campaigner's Gatewood Uzi...I will NEVER stop liking this dog.

OMG, Xeph, Uzi could almost pass for a German showline! He's GORGEOUS!

I know right?!  I wish I'd been into dogs when I was little, and old enough to be able to see him.  From what I understand, he was a phenomenal dog in temperament, health, and spirit
