Will they - the shelter follow up on this dog after she is release tomorrow? By phone, physically? Do they observe if the dog is submissive or suspicious behaviors etc, when a dog is picked up? I wonder how the original German owner must have felt knowing that his old dog is probably not in a good situation? Being bred at 8 years old? BTW, ginabean, I bred my female to Gucci. I am not sure if you remember me calling you. Roger.

Hey--The owner is NOT coming tomorrow to pick up Lissy. He won't surrender her papers because he doesn't want anyone to make money off of her, despite the fact that he is fully aware that she may have a mammary tumor. He did say that he'd make a "deal" with a person who wanted her with papers. (Grrrr!) Kristin would like to know if anyone fluent in German would be willing to ask the breeder who sold Lissy to the man in New York if he has any provision in his contract that Lissy must be returned to him, if the new owner must surrender her, or no longer wants her. (unlikely) Also, there's a possibility that someone could take her and spay her. She doesn't get along with other dogs, evidently. Kristin's boss is going to have a cow if Lissy stays much longer, and Kristin will have to board her at her own vet to save her. Kerry, Looks like I had this owner,breeder, scumbag picked the other day.It's all about $$$ for him.I'll contact you, if you like, re german breeder but international laws on dog contracts cannot be enforced.I feel it would be better for Lizzy to just be rehomed near where she is.Name & Shame this alleged breeder.He's sure in line for an 'attitude adjuster'.Rgds Axe

This is very sad, but also very commonplace!! So many older bitches get advertised for sale with the caption - "a litter or two left in her"!! These females PAY for their retirement!! They pay for their spays and tumor removals! Those pups they produce make someone money enough to spare a couple of hundred for a spay! One former trainer that I had worked with had 3 older bitchs - at one point, he was going to take an imported KKL1 female out and shoot her as she was taking up kennel space and resources. She lived with a friend of mine for 4 more years as a wonderful companion/house dog and the lady was devastated to lose her. The other two were a bit younger when I managed to get them, and one was rehomed and I still have the other KKL1 female who I did breed from, then spayed and retired. She earned that retirement, lives in the house and still goes occassionally to club to help new decoys learn and loves riding in the front seat. I find it highly distasteful to see 7 and 8 year old bitches sold for "one more litter" then dumped again afterwards! "breeders" who do this should be ashamed of themselves, but then they are just in the business of breeding, not truly breeders. Kerry and Kristen - good job..I know you have networked into some help with this dog and hope that one of the homes works out. Perhaps it can be arranged to send the dog back to the seller in Germany - spayed so she does not die of pyometra either. Unfortuanately, it is not illegal to surrender a dog to a shelter but even if the owner of record with the papers should be identified to the GSD community, it will not stop him commercially producing puppies and selling them in the local newspapers and on line unfortuantely.

Let me ask about the identification thing. I don't want to jeopardize Kristin's job in any way. This guy is a piece of work, as you can imagine. Somehow, we'll get the info out... Thanks, Axe for the offer to translate. The job has been delegated. More later. Off to dog show with wet dog.
