B.Anderson,

I do not breed. However, I have had GSD's since the day I was born and will probably own them until the day I die. I have a huge interest in the genetics. This is due mainly to my old man that passed in January. He had EPI/IBD/chronic SIBO/bilat HD/ED, and was an overall genetic mess. I started digging and learning all I could with GSD genetics. There is so much out there but because these issues were not as public as they are today, true genetic testing was not started.

I feel, as a whole, that if breeders and buyers truly banded together we can help each other minimize the negative genetic traits. They will never be gone completely, but we can learn to weed the bad out.

I hope soon that more genetic tests are found for a wealth of inherited diseases. JRD now has a genetic test. JRD is becoming more pronounced in our breed as well.

Fingers crossed we will have more info soon on other diseases.
