let's all blast the guy for being a novice and making novice mistakes. I'm quite sure he is the only one here who started from ground zero in the GSD.

the bottom line is that for the purchase price the guy got 2 dysplastic dogs, a bunch of vet bills and a tough luck letter. similar stories are fairly common in the dog world.

Im not blasting the fella as i stated i fully understand why the guy would not want to gamble with trying on a third dog thats why a cash compromise is the best possible solution it appears both partys have drawn a line in the sand and if thats the case nothing will ever be settled or agreed upon. I dont think its fair to the breeder for pup owner to run up vet bills that are out of the breeders control and then say you owe me for vet bills on top of the first purchase price of the first dog.

Larry, My female who was severe lived till 12 1/2 and I to this day think I put her down too soon. I wonder if you x-rayed those two backyard bred dogs if you would have had poor hips on them too? We will never know. They could have been fine but maybe they were not. This is only a sample of a few dogs but you don't have anything concrete to compare unless they were x-rayed. You cannot prove they were health free with respect to joints just because they lived to such and such an age.

First, never Xrayed first two dogs because never showed signs of HD - just plain old age. Izzy, our long hair from Vollkommen went down fast starting at just over two. At 21/2 was virtually crippled. Our second pup, chica, to date has shown no symptoms of HD and is 3-1/2. Only discovered it from the X-ray BUT OFA graded it severe HD - and our vet says don't work her. And that's impossible because she was born to work. Second, there are several posts I have purposely ignored - from their content clear to see simply friends trying to do damage control. Third, why would any reputable breeder not want to stand behind their dogs, first, second, or even third defective pup? I gave terry the opportunity to make a proposal but response was contact my attorney so I did. The clear and simple answer is if you don't believe in your brand get out of the business. Lastly, the common denominator for both HD pups is a Vollkommen female - both had different dads.

Larry, ignore the "don't work her" advice from the vet. What kills these dogs is lack of work. Sand, swimming, etc...keep her in shape best you can. Muscle tone is what keeps poor joints stronger, longer. Let her sit on the couch and rot, and rot she will. Research Adequan, even FHO if necessary, but whatever you do, do not baby her and force her into a sedentary life. That will send her downhill very very fast. Best wishes.

Jennie78 I so agree with you having had to face the same thing.  One lasted 11+ years the other 14+ they slowed down on there own but I kept them very active.  They went with me on just about every horse ride until the last year or so.

I agree why would any reputable breeder not stand behind what they produce taking care of the puppy buyer is whats its all about. Best wishes and I hope something can be worked out.

Any suggestions of other German shepherd Web sites where I should put buyer on notice of my back to back genetically HD pups I received from Vollkommen kennel. Please also contact me if your Vollkommen pup had severe HD. Thanks
