hundmutter, that there where no explosions at airports etc, doesnot mean no explosives were smuggled trough them

floppy ears, in general are not as good as pointy ear dogs, and to get the numbers, we can assume(and I know for a fact) that lesser quality dogs are purchased, like I said before, I have seen huntingbreeds being accepted, where shepherds of that same quality would NEVER be purchased

but keep up defending stupidity and denying facts

Hund - the best tool for the job is the one that gets the job done effectively, and in a timely manner with the least amount of cost. This applies to dogs (although I in no way consider them to be just tools) doing assorted jobs in different applications. If the suppliers of dogs for the job cannot find enough 'non-threatening' looking dogs (pure breds, mix breed, whatever) then they should be mandated to use whatever dog will get the job done, doesn't matter what the breed. I am not opposed to using any breed (or mix) as long as that dog will be capable and effective of performing the duties. Perhaps public perception should not play as much a role in dog suitability as the effectiveness of the dog. The people making the decisions about the best 'tool for the job' should care less about how the dog looks, but they should care about how the dog WORKS, and getting the best candidate available.    Unfortunately, many times the people at the top of the procurement decisions are not dog handlers and usually have no clue.

Duke, not a live link. I think they are not doing great if London is included, lol.

"Thousands of would-be bombers caught at the southern border since Trump's been in charge."
Oh yeah, lots of proof of the 'thousands' caught, and the evidence that they were all 'would-be' bombers.

Two a.m. tweets, anyone ?
ALL politicians exagerate their concerns and their supposed successes, for the voters. Not a truly honest person among them, its all expediency. Some tell more lies than others though.

I notice you are rounding on me in that 'mind your own business about our politics' way, again, rather than debate the meat of the thred.

As I see it, you are both maintaining that only the GSD can get maximum results on finding explosives (and presumably everything else that comes in as contraband ? including stowaway people ?), & no other breed ought to be used instead, 'cos they are bound to miss stuff. Whether its belted around a jihadist, or stuffed into the linings of luggage, or hidden on a truck among the veggies.

Duke does not believe the finds piled up from the work by those other breeds is any evidence of anything. I don't know whether Joan believes that too, or not. To me those piles of drugs, weapons, money, explosives, and those illegal entrants, say the floppies are doing every bit as well as the GSDs do / would. How ya gonna prove they don't ? If you really believe this BS when lots of LE and Customs forces all over the planet are saying otherwise ... well, I have (another) fine bridge you may buy.

And Joan you still have not explained why my living, or not, in London has a thing to do with anything.  If you had to move to New York City tomorrow, from where you are now, would you either know, or think, anything differently ?

Duke I tried to check out your link but the only 'Daniel Nalliah' s I could find on FB are the right-wing Aussie Pastor (who knows sweet FA about the UK) and a Dutch or Flemish speaking one who likes Thai ladyboys. Either of those your source of wisdom ?

Hund, the " proof" is the statistics from our border patrol...known terrorists apprehended at our southern border under this administration...the last admin did not allow them to be apprehended, they had to be released as though they never existed. So what is your issue with our president? He's not your President. You get the likes of May and Kan. I would not brag about them, fersher.

by joanro on 01 January 2019 - 20:01

Hund, I have been debating the "meat of the three"...you just have not noticed. I have been saying it does not matter what breed is used, the matter is that they are discriminating because of the dogs' physical appearance, rather than performance. You are the one who started bashing us and our president....and our politics are not your business. You have enough crap going on in your own country that is way worse and I don't see anyone in your country, like our great President, trying to fix yalls problems.

by ValK on 01 January 2019 - 20:01

why you worry so much?
if thing with floppy eared dogs wouldn't work well, TSA or any others will return to GSDs.
that issue can sort out by itself. in any case breed will be here for long time to come :)

by joanro on 01 January 2019 - 20:01

Valk, maybe you did not read my posts. I said it does not matter what breed they use. What matters is that they are selecting dogs by appearance rather than performance!

Why worry? Well, for starters, the whole purpose of the dogs is to find explosives on public passing through the airports in our country before they get on a plane that could be blown up and kill hndreds or thousands of people...and my taxes are paying for the nonsense of floppy ears over pointy ears!

By the time the time the tsa finds out the floppy dogs they prefer don't work...what damage to Americans when they discover, oops, these dogs aint so good!
