Nan, that's why I put my dog on a limited ingredient diet! She is sensitive to chicken, and even foods that don't have chicken as a meat source often use it as a fat source!
Still, I have my reservations about the food (Natural Balance Lamb and Rice). It contains not only brown rice (second ingredient) but also brewer's rice and rice bran (third and fourth ingredients.) After that comes lamb (not sure how that is different from lamb meal, the #1 ingredient) and dried tomato pomace, which is basically a waste product from the tomato processing industry, and dried brewer's yeast, another waste product from the brewing industry. And I'm paying a premium price for all this...
Joan, Victor sounds like a good food, but from what I can see, it's not available in Canada. Guess I'll have to add my own meat.

I certainly understand the price BS; Gather (fish) and chicken for that matter is priced at $79.99 for 16 pounds; its killing me but it comes from Canada. Like the formula but think too many carbs for now. Great coats and all the rest, Australian Shep also good on it which they can be sensitive also has done really well on the Gather fish. My GSD did not do well on raw younger (about l-2 years) so that is why I turned to kibble. Has done much better but ears are still goopy at times. Shiny coats, LOTS of energy and good poop; add up to it's working but damned expensive and the yeasty ears is why I dropped chicken and went with fish for both. Now added Stella & Chewy burger topper to be sure they are covered for the now taurine deficiencies as the aussie is just a babe and did not have the best start.trying to cover all my bases with nutrient rich foods. Who the hell knows what else might be missing or there is too much of. Stay tuned things will probably change something new next week or month. Thanks to all, Nan

The ZYMOX saved her from much chronic misery and even through this summer with temps over a 100 with humidity, no more ear nor eye problems...happy dog!!!

Here's what I am looking at currently: FROMM, Victor (the higher meat formula think that is Nupra Pro. ND with the orange added but seemed they also added Flax crap. Wish they wouldn't. A couple of others. Will list later am trying to keep this simple, hubs will have a cow if we change aussie again.
also have cooked for them but have a 8 cup per day with 2 dogs so that was a PITA but may end up there again and it was NOT any cheaper than now and 10 times the work. Also have to balance and can't find powdered doggy vitamin/mineral supplement without crap in it. Out dog nutrition is just in terrible shape.
Good days to all and thanks. Nan

Nan, isn't Chewy just in the States?
Also, can't order large quantities of food as I have very limited storage space, and my 100 year plus house with its ancient fieldstone foundation isn't rodent proof. So, not safe leaving bags of food around for lengthy periods.
I do believe dogs have adapted to eating carb-rich food during the centuries they've been domesticated, so I don't mind seeing some carbs in the food, but 3 different rice ingredients is too much, especially when two of them are cheap waste products from the human food processing industry.
