The additional weight will only be effective if have some sort of structure to the exercise.
I use variety so twice a week it's UP hill sprints (never downhill). Maybe only 6 to 10 sprints, so explosive performance, muscle mass, but thats enough pressure on the joints/tendons. Once a week is at the club training, Bitework, jumps etc, then the rest of the week normally involves one 3 mile run with my good self, and a long walk in the woods, slow time (90mins).
Each day the dog gets its normal 2 x 30mins road walks with a short ball/obedience session on the end time allowing.
The variety allowes for over efffective performance of a working/sport dog to minimise injury and allow the central nervous system to recover.
No human professional athlete is allowed to leave the gym after training without taking a least 20g protein & carb drink. The timing of food intake is essential, the Sled Dog guys and Gun Dogs have been on top of this for years, we're still behind the curve.
If that fails then "toast & butter" will build him up like a brick sh*t-house! LOL...

"What are some things you guys add to your kibble to put weight on working dogs?"
Simple answer....... to a simple question is; Fat trimmings
Most supermarkets will provide you with a bag of trimmings at no charge.
Fry them up, add the trimming and juice to the kibble.....and the Weight will come.
- Quick fix only to add weight-
