Ban the deed, not the breed. Be very, very careful when you agree with those who promote banning specific breeds you may not like yourself. Keep the big picture in mind. There are plenty of people who don't like GSDs either, don't help open that door to BSL. I sometime do rescue for my original breed, the Alaskan Malamute. I cannot tell you how many times we have been called out by a humane society to come pick up a Malamute that turns out to be a GSD mix or a Siberian or a mix with prick eyes and a gay tail. When you back a breed ban against pitties you are signing a death order for an dog that looks remotely like a pittie. Currently there is a DNA test that is showing promise of identifying the breed(s) of each dog. However, we can't expect the human societies to use them unless the cost is well within their budgets. Not too long ago 2 Malamutes were destroyed in the mid west because some wolf "expert" said they were part wolf. We frantically tried to save thse 2 beautiful dogs, sent an expert witness to testify that these were indeed Alaskan Malamute. This was a woman who bred and showed Malamutes since the 70's she herself an AKC judge and published author. The judge dismissed her testimony, sided with the wolf expert and the dogs were executed. That needs to also be a concern for GSD owners, they too could be termed "part wolf" and destroyed. Most dog law officers do not know one breed from another. Do you really think most of them know the difference between a pit, a staffordshire of a mixed bulldog? They don't. Just be careful letting your personal dislike of other breeds influence you feelings about breed banning. It could come back to bite you in the ass, literally.

LOL, I meant "prick ears", not "prick eyes".

I do admit to a personal bias about pits. However that does not change what they are physically and what they are bred to do. Is it the dog's fault? No, they did not ask to be bred and raised as they are and it is a real tragedy that humans have done that. Can pits be loving companion animals? I think so, if the owners know enough and care enough to make them tht way. The fact is though that most don't. They just want a dog that makes them look like the baddest m@#$%*&f$^#@!r on the block. I will repeat that it is the owners, not the dogs that are the main problem.

Physically I think Pits are beautiful. Love those big square heads and the cuts in their muscles. When I think of the breed I see the beauty when I think of the owners, I see a dingaling with a chain being drug down the street by his dog, that has no manners or training. Pits are just as capable as any other dog to be trained and socialized well. They make awesome pets very loving and non aggresive twords people or other dogs. San Fransisco just passed a law, all Pits must be sterilized unless you are a licensed breeder. I'm not totally happy with this legislation but I guess it's better than rounding them all up and euthenizing innocent dogs.

My son has a pittie, my granddaughter 2 males that get on quite well with one other. None of these dogs are people aggressive.

Hi Kelly! What have you been up to? Birdy...

Animals aren't born bad they are just brought up badly. I just don't understand why if found guilty of mistreating any animal, your not banned from keeping any animal for 10-15 years like in the UK.
