About 5 years ago my now ex sister-in-law left a 6 month old lab pup tied to the rafters in her garage. I don't know all the details of how it happened, but she came home to find the pup had hung himself. She was devastated as she really thought the pup would be okay. There have been times I had no choice but to tie a dog out but always worried and never left them unattended. The last 2 places I rented I put up fences at my own expense. Now I finally have my own place and had a fence put up before I even moved in. And no, I'm not rich. I just figure if I want to have dogs, it is my respnsibility to have a safe place for them. The german shepherd rescue in this area will not even let anyone adopt a dog without a fence. I was talking to someone last year who lives in a very nice home in the country on 5 acres of land but was still denied because they have no fence.

your NENZ is just a SHY dog and she doesn't like being with you and tries to get away CIRCLING you thinking the leash may break and OFF she can GO... LOL

marci, not true. I usually walk him off leash, in fact he is only on leash when we go inside places or on the property of the company we rent our house from. Due to hip dysplasia he is not inclined to go very far and stays very close to me.
