Well they have scheduled a CT scan for her tomorrow afternoon... My husband is visiting with her now as the hopsital is very close to his work. In further discussion with the radiologist, there seems to a few suspicious spots in the LS area. The neuro doc has asked for a biopsy if at all possible. gsdlvr2, Annika has only had that one episode of seizures, so she is not on any seizure meds. We would love for it to be steroid responsive meningitis, I am hoping that whatever we find it is treatable. Thank you all for your kind thoughts and prayers, Darlene Vom Herrenhaus German Shepherds

I wish you and Annika the best. It is a good thing when you can go and spend time with them while at the Vets. Mine was in the Hospital last year for almost 2 weeks, I would walk him, my Mom would also go there and walk him. I think he had more walks there than when he is home.

The CT scan came back with a diagnosis of Discospondylitis. All but one of the lesions the docs were concerned about looked normal with the CT scan. We started her on Ampicillin and stopped the Keflex yesterday afternoon in hopes of bringing down her fever. Unfortunately her fever spiked again late this morning to 104.5, she is very weak from the scan yesterday and truly is dying right before my eyes. Our only and last resort is steroids, she got her 1st injection a couple hours ago. If there is no improvement in her fever within 24 hours we will have to let her go. We have done every test and tried every antibiotic to fight this, it is now in God's hands. Darlene Vom Herrenhaus German Shepherds

I'm so sorry, Annikas! I lost my first GSD to something similar: spondylitis, plus a bacterial infection, only in her case, it was subacute and progressed very slowly, eventually robbing her of the ability to walk. I'll keep you in my prayers!

Well, this is the first morning in 3 weeks that her temp is normal and she is eating on her own!!! Seems the steroids are working, her temp has been normal now for 8 hours. The plan is to switch her to oral steroids later today, if her temp stays normal, and see how she does for another 24 hours. Still very worried but I am seeing a ray of hope that I haven't seen in 3 weeks. Prayers are working, so keep praying!! Darlene Vom Herrenhaus German Shepherds
