cat, I guess the better question would be, why don't you name the breeds still good for their intended purpose?
I wish I could, but I don't have that kind of expertise. I can only comment on GSD and Sibes with first-hand knowledge. I've heard rumors about declining utility in a couple other breeds, but since no first-hand knowlege, don't want to post something that could be erroneous.
I hope you and other people on the forum can share what you know about this in various breeds.
