lol - mildly off topic - but vonissk = my Battle Buddy at army camp this past summer was part native American and spoke some Choctaw...lol...I'd never heard of it before and now I have heard it twice in a couple of months...

And now back on topic...what is a Rez dog?  I have never heard that term before.

Rez is short for Reservation. Many Indian Reservations have dogs wandering about breeding at rampant. Just mutts, no special breed.

I have a friend who lives near a reservation in New Mexico.  She has rez dogs, but they look more like the kind of mix you see on working cattle or sheep ranches.  Aussie, cattle dog, BC's and the like.  Her dogs are all mostly medium sized and are really cool dogs.

The Gullible public will ne ver cease to amaze me.

For as long as I can remember, I have spent at least one weekend a month at the Rez in Shiprock, NM. This is the first I have ever heard of this new breed of Rez dog lol. I thought the "Canispanther" was a joke, but this takes the Cake.

I will be at the Rez weekend after next. I believe I will create my own breed at that time. Keeping with the Indian Theme, and since I've seen a few there, I will call my new breed "SKINWALKERS". I havent decided my base dogs yet, but I'm certain I can come up with something.

My friend rescues dogs & either keeps them or finds them homes, she doesn't breed them.  She does refer to them as "Rez dogs".

In Shiprock there isn't that many dogs running around loose on the Rez.. The last time I was there, I fed a couple of cute mutts some hot dogs outside one of the little grocery stores. Later that evening the same 2 had a buddy and were begging for food at the KFC. From time to time I've seen a few running around at the Rodeo Grounds, but thats about it.  My Mother's place is right over the steel bridge.

I hope I didn't give anyone the impression that a lot of these dogs are being thrown away, that's not the case at all.  It's certainly not a full or even a part time job for my friend, she's just one of those people that takes in strays (dogs, cats, people)!
