I sure don't expect my family to baby sit me, and I'm very close to the same age.
You sure can not blame it on her family and friends. Geez.

Show of hands-from the people who have made poor choice/s in life. I think every single one of us has made a poor choice or two in life at one time or another.
I was addicted to cigarettes and it took medication and family and friends to help me kick the habit. Without a support group, most people find it hard to kick addictions.
Look at AAA. Look at other dependency programs.

The person who is addicted will NEVER stop until THEY decide that they WANT too quit. At that time support from others may or may not help depending on the addicted individuals personality.
But if the addicted person does NOT want to quit, all the support and help in the world is going to be useless.
I think what some of the previous posters were trying to say is, that it was Whitney's decisions to do drugs. And apparently she didn't want to quit.

Most people need support, not many quit cold turkey on their own.
Ninja, have you ever had an addiction?

by Ninja181 on 23 March 2012 - 22:03
But I have worked next to people who perished from their addictions.
Now GSD Mod let me ask you a question about smoking. I will bet you tried to quit many times and were unsuccessful. But the time that you finally made it, you were really determined to quit. This IMO would have put you in the proper frame of mind for others to support you and help you quit.

I do not want to get into details but have close family who battled addictions. Some quit and some are still fighting.
And one last thing, sometimes intervention works whether the person is ready or not. Once the intervention is started something just clicks and the person buys in.

I don't disagree with anything you said, I am simply trying to point out that I don't believe anyone will ever overcome an addiction unless first, they admit they have a problem, and secondly, they finally want to solve it.
