I know Jen but when someone tries to make their point by throwing around known names, they ought to get it right. As for Ricky Jones he turned out to be a piece of work. Lousy snitch. If he thought so much of Sandman he should have done a better job on learning his vet care skills. Then maybe Sandman would have made it to a ripe old age.

I cannot begin to try and explain my scarcasm.  Appologies.

Reverend Cowboy, one of the first things you need to do is lose your 'sporting dog' terminology.  'Tenacity' is NOT a concept applied to GSDs, and your use of it, combined with your former breed of choice, pretty much announces what you were previously engaged in with your pit bulls...'cause you sure weren't ratting with them.

Glad to hear you have an acquaintence who is involved in SchH--and with a breed that's woefully underrepresented in the activity in this country, no less--and you've reached out to him for guidance.  That's the best step you've taken yet...and if you are open to what that handler, and other experienced handlers he may introduce you to, say and show you, there's a chance you could turn out to be a credit to this breed.  It's a better start than your initial premise for this thread...

My mistake about Garrett's CH Jeep  I was just talking to a fellow about Chinaman. Maybe I am dyslexic.

@Hexe. Thanks I certainly want to a credit to one of the best breeds there ever was! Wish I had come to my senses earlier! Lol!

Hmm. I use the concept of "tenacity" all the time to judge, gauge, and describe my GSDs.

Guess that tells a story about me and my activities, too? Thinking

@Rick...I liked that dog (Sandman). Didn't know the dog personally, of course.

by ramgsd on 01 January 2013 - 21:01

Hexe you are arguing semantics. Tenacity is just not the term generally used with GSD. If you look at the definition of "Tenacity" it is something we find and want in the GSD breed as well as the APBT. Also don't jump to conclussions just because of what someone posts here. If that were the case everyone on here must be a top notch trainer.Wink Smile

Jen Sandman was a very good dog.

Jenni when you run both breeds there are bound to be crossovers in
the expressions you use.  Hexe is right in that 'tenacity' has never been
a term in common use in GSD circles.  Just cos you say something,
doesn't mean we are all saying it.  Yes its a semantic argument;  but
given the APBT connections with the origens of the word used in re:
dogs,  personally I'd prefer it to stay unused in Shepherds - we have
enough image problems.  JMO.

Or some people could broaden the vocabulary.

Hundmutter, not trying to argue with YOU, but she didn't say "common" use. She made a blanket statement that the CONCEPT of tenacity isn't applied to GSDs and I beg to differ. As Rick said, it's arguing semantics. Here is what she said exactly, at the bottom of my post, and I'm sorry, but it's just a silly thing to say. Tenacity is a wonderful quality in just about everything I can think of...people, dogs, whatever...it's the will to keep at it. Simple. GSD people might call it "hunt drive" if you're talking about a dog looking and looking in tall grass for a lost ball and something else in another situation.  I just call it tenacity. Easier term and anyone off the street would know what I meant...and if that makes me a dog fighter, well, LOL.

HEXE SAID:  " 'Tenacity' is NOT a concept applied to GSDs, and your use of it, combined with your former breed of choice, pretty much announces what you were previously engaged in with your pit bulls."
