I think "black sable" is just as good a descriptive term as "blood bay" is for a horse. That is, it's very descriptive and most people would instantly know what it meant.
But it's not a specific pattern in itself--just sable with the black recessive and some heavy pigmentation modifiers.
As far as Figo--he's a dark sable. Will have to wait until he finishes to see how dark. Handsome boy, though.

Jenni the breeder had never bred the pair together before. He told me what to expect, and I liked what I saw from the pup and the pedigree myself. I have never owned a dog with this much DDR in the bloodline. I did alot of research and i liked what i read and heard enough to buy him. I just would like to know all the different things that the dogs produced in his pedigree . I have asked the breeder and he has given me alot of info. I just like to know multiple unbiased opinions about what I could/should expect. As far I can see he has medium prey drive, medium-high food drive, high ball drive. Id like to know what I can expect on hardness if possible or how to gauge that.

What a beauty, very good front reach too, a really beautiful boy, he's developing to the better for sure. I beg your pardon to add that his croup is really short, if that croup gets longer and the tailset sets a bit lower then he'll be very close to perfection.
Wow Ibrahim I really appreciate that critque. Is it possible for that to happen, and how much of a problem is the short croup.
Yes some croups get longer and some tailsets get lower, I remember in another thread, Xeph shared pics of one of his (maybe I should say her!) beautiful dogs who had a slightly high tailset and short croup and they both got better as the dog matured.
Croup has a muscle on top of it, the longer and wider the croup the bigger is that muscle which adds to movement power and more sustain of endurance, croup angle does also help in smooth transition of force from hind parts to the back then to front, croup is very important and as some of the experts say we have a problem in the croups of our GSDs, mostly steep croups which hind soft movement and breaks up balance.

Harrison, just speaking of structure and what little can be told from pics (you did an excellent job of giving a good look) , this is a very promising puppy. Very good front reach, croup in 13 wk. pic looks to have good length, dark eyes and rich color. I know that's not w/l stuff, but it's nice to see a puppy like this.
I had a Rex son last year, he turned out to be a very hansome dark sable with nice bone and blocky head, he had medium drive. You pup looks very much like he did at this age. Best of luck to you and him! He is quite hansome.
