Uh, it's what dogs do.

If the pooping in the kennel itself is not the problem and its just that your Lab runs through it when he sees you, you can try the following. Put a elevated platform on the site of the kennel you are approaching from, where he probably runs back and forth. Leave an area open on the backside of the kennel, this will be his potty area. Dogs like to sleep high, and tend to potty on lower lying areas. Depending what your ground is made of, you can put shavings in his potty area. I use a wooden platform in my kennels leaving an L shape with shavings on dirt for the potty area. The dog igloos sit on the platforms, as well as their water buckets are hung over it. When I have to go to work (gone for 13hrs, nightshift 3x a week) I feed the 2 dogs that stay in the kennels on the platforms. None of the dogs chews on the wood. My 2 boys have the run of half the house and 2 others will stay crated inside without any problems. And yes, they can hold it and none of them has complained so far. They get however plenty of exercise throughout the other days, 3x IPO training and bush romping. It works well for me. Dont be discouraged.
