Six or so years ago I paid an adoption fee of $250 from a Southern State for 10 week old GSD puppy. They offered a $100 dollar refund after proof of being neutered. This dog developed DM and I paid at least $3k trying to save him.

A dog that has had any problems with elbows-bad enough that required surgery is a gamble for anyone. If he were my dog, I would place him for free with the right family/person. You can go to a shelter and get a perfectly healthy, nice dog for anywhere from 60 dollars (city shelters) to 200-300 at a regular shelter.

Interesting. I never said anything about elbows. mail  Methinks we have a psychic in our midst!

Imo, creating a new username and using information that wasn't posted to counsel me as to what kind of price I should let you (well not you as in Lady450, but you as in bpgsd) take him for is a bit beyond typical "negotiating" wouldn't you say?

Hello!

New to this board, but not to German Shepherds. I have had them all my life up until a few years ago. Now, I'm married and a stay at home mom to a wonderful 2 year old little boy and we are now currently searching for a GSD to adopt into our family! We are located in Indiana. Can anyone recommend some rescues?   Thanks!

More coincidence?

Where he is located? Who owns him? I looked up the kennel that is listed as owning him but they have not been active on their own website since last year.....I did send an email anyway and have recieved no response. Any info appreciated.

Thanks.

You seemed like a good potential home, but if you're willing to be this sneaky right off the bat, I think I'll keep looking. Just be honest. This is kind of creepy, to be frank. I'd be thrilled if you could prove that you aren't both bpgsd and Lady450 and that I'm just getting paranoid in my old age.

I noted this poster using two different screen names earlier; as well as the mention of "elbows"?
Then the plot thickened = geesh!!

I swear, as great as the internet is for networking and such, it sure brings out the crazies. Something tells me the dog is still available...and a psych test may be required.   All you can do is chuckle, Betta Wolf...

@Jenni78:  Good Attitude!!!  That you are able to Chuckle!!!!!

Me, I find myself loosing all faith in the internet; in regard to buying/selling a dog!!

Well, I wouldn't ship him anyway, so it doesn't really matter. I'll be meeting them and spending a bit of time before he hops in their car.  But yeah...I don't sell many dogs and I have had my fair share of scammers. It's just a good opportunity (internet) for liars to do their thing.

Oh, Jen, I am completely biased... How'd you know?  (still a bit disappointed that the little guys were too big already to fit in my pockets for when I left.... darn! LMAO!)

And you are right... 'the Warden' would have a coronary.

Well Jenn, you got to give ladybp an A for effort (too funny). A couple of years ago I found a creative freebie seeker also.I had an ad for German Shepherd pups and this woman I know also had a litter of Husky pups for sale also , that she asked me to help her with an ad, and screening. Both listed AKC, guarantee,etc.,etc., So first e-mail oh woe is me was I am a police officer and just lost my beautiful Shepherd at the hands of a crazed gunman,yadda,yadda...family and kids devistated by the loss.Am hoping someone might donate a pup to the family to help ease the pain. Same day, response to Husky ad, I am a fireman and while my family was on vacation in Florida, with their beloved pet, an alligator at the lake grabbed their dog and drug him into the lake, he attempted to beat the alligator off ,but his much beloved family pet was gone. Family kids devistated at the loss, might I have a pup to ease the loss. Same e-mail, Needless to say, they got an appropriate response from me.

LOL, Kitkat, what terrible luck those guys must've had! Too funny. How dumb do these people think others are? As dumb as they are, I guess. You have to be VERY smart to succeed at deception. I'm too lazy, frankly. I find it much easier to just stick to the truth- not nearly so much to remember.

"You can go to a shelter and get a perfectly healthy, nice dog for anywhere from 60 dollars (city shelters) to 200-300 at a regular shelter. "

I don't know what shelters this poster is referring to, but ALL of the ones I'm familiar with do NOT routinely x-ray hips or elbows of the dogs they're holding before offering them for adoption, nor do they screen them for other diseases, either, unless the clinical signs are obvious--hell, the dog I took in as a foster from a local shelter last fall turned out the have discoid lupus (an incurable autoimmune disorder), along with a joint mouse in his stifle that will need arthroscopic surgery at some point.  So there's absolutely NO guarantee that you can get a 'perfectly healthy, nice dog' from a shelter for any particular fee...

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with setting a reasonable fee for a dog that's being rehomed, whether the dog has a known flaw or not; if somebody can't come up with a modest amount of money in exchange for a dog, the chances of them being able to come up with the money to provide veterinary care for that dog comes into question in my point of view, and I'd hesitate to place a dog with that person.  Just as there's more to owning a house than being able to make the mortgage, home owner's insurance and taxes, owning a pet has expenses beyond the purchase price and the cost of food...
