Wow! COOL!

Although this may look like a good idea for the site to have... It could very well be abused at the same time. People can now name their dog videos with popular dog names just so they can get more views on their videos.
If people want to add videos of their dogs on their dogs pedigree page why not add an additional feature of allowing people to submit a video link? Same rules applies when you edit the dogs page.

Hi Ollie,
As always thanks for your hard work on the PDB. I have an old slow computer running XP and an old browser edition. I know that there are still legions out there with similiar older configs esp since the recession and job loss hit.
My computer has struggled with each add on that has seemed to change the underlying page programming for the database. The worst is those darn cat litter and food ads with all the flash motion stuff in them. They really give my PC a headache. The darn maps on the user profiles are also crash makers. I have often wondered how much people really use them especially because they are often inaccurate. The profile tells us where they are located - could you maybe just have a link to the map rather than loading it on the page.
So I fear that your new feature will be the cause of crashes and freezes for those of us with older computers plus I do not like the look of it - I think it destroys the integral look of the pedigree page and this is afterall the PEDGIREE DB not the you tube db. I really don't like scrolling down so far to view what I came for - the pedigree.
I was going to suggest something similiar to Britanny's idea. Could they not be loaded to a linked page as the picture articles and koer reports are or maybe to the comment section? Plus why not give people the option of deciding for themselves which videos they want to link their dog's pedigrees to. Certainly if that choice is left to the dog's owner/ handler it should solve the problem of wrong videos being linked.
Perhaps I am in the minority with my old slow computer ( tho given the world audience for PDB I suspect not) but I can tell you I visit less and less often these days because of the tech issues since you added the maps, facebook and social media links etc etc. The other GSD pedigree databases do not seem to present such challenges to my OS. Do you get any metrics that show how much those kind of features are actually used? I.E. are people actually taking advantage of them and if so at what rate or do they merely make the PDB look like it's social media while wasting valuable storage space and bandwidth?
Addendum Plus tho some may perceive me as a Luddite for this (I am not) I really don't care how many people have "liked" a dog on facebook. I'm looking for what I'm looking for - not for a popular vote especially because it increasingly seems that any vote is coming from a set of pathetically unknowledgeable (often ignorant but sometimes just uneducated ) individuals who have not taken the time to educate themselves about our breed or breeding dogs in general. Relying on the "popular" vote and not doing your homework about the breed and your individual dog/ bitch will just hasten the destruction of the breed.

Personally Like and have no problem viewing Videos but can see why people like ZIG has a problem.
Surely the answer could be an opt-in/opt-out policy that could be implemented for Registered users
likewise for the FaceBook options (do not or have any intentions of using FaceBook)

I just checked my dogs page and there are actually 10 videos that show up and there is a video that showed up as the last one that does not have his name, any part of his name in either the description or title of the video nor in the tags. How is it that this happened? It is another breeders video, now advertising them on my dogs page, not really what I'm looking to do :) I agree with the others that it should be limited to only a few videos, the eight videos takes up a lot of space and obviously allows too much. Also I think maybe having the option to either add the videos through a link, or give the owners the option of deleting the videos they don't want to show up, like this video I cannot mark private yet it has nothing whatsoever to do with my dog http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=629855
It is the last video that shows up, bottom right, the other puppy videos on there are mine that say West Coast, although a couple of them don't list his name in the title or the description, however his name is listed in the keyword tags, as separate words though not as a phrase.
I'm not sure this is quite working how it said it was going to Oli, I'm thinking it needs a bit of tweeking.
Thanks,
Barbie

Though I don't have TIG's problem but I understand his needs, it doesn't look fair for people with lesser speed connections or older softwares, it would be nice if there is a possibility to keep the (new excellent and intelligent features) without further worsening their problem.

I agree with Brittany. I am proud of my dogs pedigree...I am not proud of all, nor do I wish my pedigree page to be littered with my video on DIY mini Schutzhund blinds!! I found this feature while searching the sire of a friends pup, and on the Sires page...there he is with his pup!!! It does not belong there! This would be a great feature if the 8 videos were of the kind we all would be proud of, unfortunately we do not get to choose! Making all my youtube videos private to keep them off the database seems a bit unfair.
Please remove the auto add video feature and add a tool icon to add video, or give us the ability to hide the video.
Thanks,
Mark and Lewy

Will newer videos replace what is there now or will the original videos stay forever?
Also, I can see if I had a stud dog and then people posted videos of the puppies he sired and listed his name in the video title, then potentially,
an entire litter of puppies would take up the 8 slots...maybe not what I would want on my stud dog's pedigree page. I might want his working
videos or whatever instead. Could there be an override to choose or replace the videos I wanted?

The request is now restricted to the title. So that should reduce the clutter.
