We still havent gotten the lab results yet. They said it would take 3 weeks but I question this. Maybe canine labs take longer.

Now that I look back at when you initially posted, I realize it hasn't been long enough yet...I always lose track of time at this time of year! Generally doesn't take 3 weeks, but since the surgery was done three days before Christmas, between that holiday and New Year's, the university labs (which are typically who runs this kind of analysis) are often either closed completely, or on a limited schedule for these two weeks. Usual turn-around time is about a week to ten days.
Was just curious as to what type they are. How's the big guy doing?

Ok Hexe the stones are stuvite so my question is: should I limit the amount of bone in the ground meat (will be going to chicken) or does that really matter? From what I have been reading about the stones, diet has little effect. I asked a friend of mine who works for a holistic vet and she said to limit bones, so if that's the case, I would need to feed a different meat source.
And is coconut oil better as a suppliment to oregano oil. Most of what Ive read seems to favor coconut oil to oregano.
Thanks
Barb

My brother gets frequent stones and they have not yet discovered why.. he has changed diet etc and has passed some monsterous stones. One of his more recent bouts they did some kind of sonic waves to break up the stones into smaller peices so they can pass easier, could they have done that to the dog?

I asked the vet that and they can but the stones have to be pretty small and she said that dog medicine just hasnt caught up with humans in that area so not too many vets could perform it.
What kind of stones does your brother have? Diet seems to play a role in all the stones (though less with struvite) so maybe if your brother changes his diet and monitors his ph, he might get less.

I am not sure what type of stones.. I seem to remember the dr. say one time it was calcium related and another time it was something else.. .. not sure, 1 was controled by diet the other has to be control by meds. My bro has been fighting these for the last 15 years or so had to have surgery several times to remove the really big ones.. one of his recent one was 9 mm and they were going to try to make him pass it lol that scared him so he left that er ( a county er) and went to the methodisthospital where they took him straight in for surgery,, the concern being the number of stones he has passed creating scar tissue and the uretha not expanding to let the stone thru.. Glad it aint me!
