I HATE Avid!!!! They charge you for the chips, then $20 to register..
24 HR Petwatch is only $6, and nothing to register....
Think I will stick with those,
Had 4 dogs come in that were supposed to be chipped with Avid, used my own scanner then took them to a vet with an Avid scanner, never found the chips on the whole dog, I know they can move, we checked under the belly, sides, neck literally the whole body and never found them. I then remicrochipped with mine. Just FYI

Glad Ben is back!
I use AKC microchips, they are international and not too expensive.

You can register ANY chip w/24PetWatch, can't you Steph? I have a friend who works for Schering-Plough so I had codes to register all mine for life. Otherwise, I think HomeAgain is one of the more expensive chips, though they never move, so I think they're worth it.

Thank you for your offer Jen :)
I had researched the different chips last year. None of them seemed to be a perfect answer so I was hoping that someone would put out a perfect chip (read by all scanners, doesn't move, accepted by international standards for import/export, no ridiculous annual registration fee, etc.)
I have used the microchip syringes before, back when I worked at the show kennel they chipped all the dogs they kept. It was AVID, and those chips did move, they had their own scanner and we found chips down in the ankles, chest, ribs or not at all sometimes. It really turned me off of microchips back then.

the SV scheme ? I've always preferred this system, given the various problems with microchips
(and because I prefer not to have 'shrapnel' floating around in my dogs LOL).

Most of the "premium" chip brands can be read by one scanner now, provided it's a newer scanner.
I found a freaking homing pigeon and was on the phone with his owner in minutes after searching a computer database. I thought it was asinine that pigeons have a better chance making it home.

Weird, my GSD wouldn't leave me, more than to go to the bathroom (?)
with or without Diarrhea

Guess she takes her job serious, other than being a GSD, PP

I appreciate Ben's concern about not wanting to potty in the house. But I certainly would've rather cleaned up a mess in the house then freak out because he was missing.
