My appology for reacting to unkind remarks directed at me.
Back to topic: just another sport dog ?
Note; lives as a companion dog. Has never had any interest in ball or retrieving.

BE, I don't know what I wrote to change your opinion of me, but it doesn't change what I see, what I have experienced, or what I know.
I don't get on here and lambast others training, or set the standards for what is top level and what is mediocrity, and constantly state everything in this country is trash. Fortunately, I don't need validation from this forum to recognize good dogs and separate the dogs from training. I let my statements speak for themselves, some will realize what I know others won't.
But when I hear statements like it's easy to turn most sound dogs civil, ( I mean the dogs of today) it's not usually worth my effort to debate them. Let folks believe what they want, it won't change reality. There is definitely a place for sound, civil dogs, that are social in their pack, and steady in public. That is what most LE would ideally have. Analyze what I wrote carefully....sound,...social in their pack, civil, and steady in public( which comes with training). These dogs aren't for everyone, but we need their genes in gene pool for balance. I understand your background and the dogs from your family( excellent dogs) because I was owning, training, breeding dogs during the same period. But there is a sport dog today that has emanated from sport training that has lost the ability to easily convert to LE unlike the Sch dogs from 40 years ago. People who train, breed, import, these dogs recognize this, but it is often inconsistent with sport goals. Czech dogs of 15 years ago were different than West workinglines, one was better suited for sport, the other better suited for LE work. Today as the lines( at least Czech/Slovak) have become more intergrated, it is much harder to find good LE dogs from Czech lines. Figure it out?
Sure folks, like Duke and I can still find them,( and other also), but we also know that it is becoming harder to find them. A good dog is a good dog, but don't believe that the sport world has not created a different emphasis just like the show world has created a different emphasis. Heck, in Germany training has created a different emphasis, and most of these emphasis shifts are more beneficial( in terms of type dog that is bred) to the sport,( higher and higher drive), show,( gait/color/heads), training,( positive only, shaping, gimmicks, food, etc) than they are to maintaining gene pool for LE type dogs.
In conclusion, I'm not saying that folks should breed FOR LE type dogs, what I am saying is that the genetics to continue to have LE dogs must be maintained in the breed. And today there are many folks breeding/training in their little spheres that don't understand this because they are unfamiliar with the dog and the training it takes to reach these dogs. Some of us still do!

Breed your own dogs and sell to your target, you been around long enough to start your own breed.
Quiet with blaming everyone else for evolving in their own domain.

Nothing in the standard say thou all shall breed for police dog prospects.

Still waiting for Crumbs to explain why a dog that puts every strange person that enters into his territory on immediate " lock down ", and is clearly not afraid of persons is considered a " nerve bag" ? Explain why you insist that this dog is motivated by insecurity as opposed to a raw genetic predisposition to be incharge of his territory and the resources that go with it. I can understand that in today's " liability conscious " driven anxiety filled society, this behavior may seem undesirable ..and the majority may prefer " contextual " aggression. But this dog has a very majestic presence in his territory, and it is admirable that an animal a GSD ) can command such a presence. Like i said, enter a tiger family's immdeiate habitat and come back and tell us ( hope you're alive ) , that the main tiger responded out of insecurity.
