Give it a little more time Darlin - right now the most important thing you want to look at when breeding is Temperment, Structure and Health - lol - You're look at the structure thing right now - thats good - but Health is above all the most important.
Do some research into the OFA (www.offa.org) and into PennHip in order to check the hips and elbows - those are the basics you want to do. Past that I would look into doing OFA tests for the Cardiac and Thyroid problems, and past that the DM Flash Test, a scan for Cauda Equina and the EPI test...the MDR1 test, BAER and CERF are also useful tests to look at maybe getting done on your girl :) Not everyone does them - but me, I tend to like the whole picture :)
Health is the best place to start when you are looking at breeding anything :)

Pashabasher1, if you are truely but fourteen (14) years old I think we (including me) can apologize for some of our comments. We are not accustomed to innocence on this messageboard! When we see a question such as yours it does make many of us make snide remarks as we are accustomed to "adults" making similar statements here just to tick off people.
So you wish to someday become a breeder of German Shepherd dogs? That is quite a goal if you plan to do it correctly. I think I will tell you what I hope that many should; Read, read, read, read, read. Past that, go to shows and look, look, look, look. Ask questions, and never accept but one (1) person's word as the absolute truth, for if dog breeding was that easy, then there would be one (1) established and proven way to do it.
Good books? Malcolm Willis' "The German Shepherd Dog-A Genetic History" Max von Stephanitz's "The German Shepherd Dog In Word & Picture" and as many publications as you can find that were written by Dr. Fred Lanting. Dr. Lanting fortunately is still alive and does give lectures in various areas.
Learn to understand the German language at least so you can read it without much difficulty, as current S.V. works are usually published only in the German language. Remember, this is a German breed and in many ways the Germans still have the best resources available for the production of this breed.
So, in closing, please accept my welcome to the messagboard.

I think you have to earn respect on this site. Lots of people have been on the board for a while, and new commers are sometimes treated roughly. Also the general opinion on the board is no breeding long haireds. Also watch out if your breeding dog is not working tittled, or ofa'd. Good luck with the litter. Also, a gsd is supposed to have a slope to his back, not a steep one, but a level back is also undesirable. You should read the GSD standard, and then look for a male that comes closest to that, and to what you like in a dog. Coat should not be the main concern.

Pasha... Just drop the "basher" on you handle (login name)... probably, similar Trolls who reply with short-stuff and pictures mistook you for one of their own... As for me, i know that racism and social conflicts exist in the world... No offense... I even thought that the TROLL thing was about dark-colored, wide-eyed, techy Indian (Nothing personal) that frequent the discussion websites... I'm wrong... but there are some people that are fond of BASHING... They are just like dogs that are all bark and no bite...
Hope you find what you need here in PDB...(check out "seach messageboard" for similar topics that might interest you...)
Have a nice day... Marci

I will publicly apologize too
We recently (only days ago) had a thread on longcoats and breeding and all sort of things that went over the top with inappropriate behavior. I think some of us thought (particularly with "basher" in the name that you were coming back to taunt the board.

Thankyou so much bob o, watsongsd and ceph for making me feel welcome i understand about long coats you are all trying to breed to the standard or improve it to make a better dog for our future generations i have 1 book on GSDs by peter neville to be honest i'm really disapointed because i bought it hoping for it to give my guidence for my dream as a breeder but it doesn't seem to be at all good, why do we new comers get treated roughly i mean the first thing you should do to a new comer is get to know them and try to be nice not scare them by accusing them of being trolls
by pashabasher1 on 10 January 2008 - 22:01
Oh no you see the basher in my username is what we nicknamed our shepherd because it rhymes with her name and because she is very boisterous and playful shes not nasty at all shes just 9 months at the moment
