Rezkat, thank you for that link about ivermectin and GSD. I was convinced that there was an issue with GSD and ivermectin but my vet kept telling me no. I had gotten ivermectin for a GSD I used to own ( ex hub got her in the divorce, more battle over that than the kids) from the vet, used it and she was a super sick puppy!! I called the vet and he said impossible that she must have gotten into something. Since she was a house dog I know she hadnt gotten into anything. I no longer try to use Ivermectin on GSD altho I do use Selmectin, Primary ingredient in Revolution, with no ill affects.

Animules- Thanks, you saved me the trouble of asking them. lol  I HATE calling the AKC for anything; they're not only useless most of the time but they make you feel like god forbid they have to actually do their job to answer your questions. lol

Shandra & Rezkat: Ive been using Ivemec for 21 years on my gsd...will not give it to my cockers....they are smaller and I have always heard that some breeds dont have good reactions to it.....I only have german lines. and I am very careful with the dose,,,,Its the same thing in Heartguard....and also you vet was probably right....It wasnt the Ivemec.....Ivemec is used on baby pups also and on pups with bumpies and scabies...low doseage with other things in the formula.......Ivemec is used for dermadectic mange.,,,,,,it does like any drug have sideeffects..just like our drugs , Prilosec OTC  has side effects so I use apple cider vinegar......premarin has bad side effects so I dont take it...take vit e and  c and magnesium and calcium and zinc.....

Dogs have to be watched closely when ever you give any kind of treatment..I want nothing to do with anything revolution has in it...no drug that treats 6 things is good for the liver, kidney or gall bladder....Ivemec can harm them too, but I have heard of 100 cases of bad of revolution

Im afraid of Revolution.....and dont start a cussing name calling rant over this either,,,,not necessary.....this is an opinion based on years of experience....mine....and those I associate with.

Agar,  The DNA division has been very prompt with any and all questions I've emailed them about.  knock on wood.....      Maybe we've been lucky so far with our dealings with AKC in general.

I really like the idea of DNA as a sort of "checks and balances" thing.  When you buy a new pup, one of the things that you (hopefully) check out and pay for is the pedigree and bloodlines.  True, as they say. puppies are always a crap shoot, but maybe the testing will make this a little less true.

Funny thing is, I remember hearing a few years ago about DNA testing for show dogs to curb the unethical practice of "litter loading" - when a breeder takes pups from one pair and tries to pass it off as progeny from two top dogs.  Instead of a litter of 5 top Bichons, now that litter has 9 puppies.  Presto chango!

I agree that it's a good idea for parental validation.

SchHBabe, such a thing never even occurred to me as possible a few years ago. Last year I put a deposit down on a pup in Belgium and made  a color preference, saw pictures of the litter and another that was only days apart. I ended up not purchasing for fear a puppy swap was going to take place. The other litter had the black and tans and the litter I was interested I knew should have thrown sables. The pictures and the breeders description wasn't matching up and I wondered if he made a mistake posting the pics or if he was trying to pull a fast one. Both litters were very good, I wouldn't have minded either one but I want my dog to actually match his pedigree for future reference. It is hard enough trying to figure out genetics, when you aren't even looking at the right info. I never want to guess or wonder why things I don't expect, are popping up in my dogs.
