If they were up and now are down, check their teeth. My 5 1/2 month old is just teething like mad now. Still has 2 sets of K-9s but I am not worried as this is the case with the whole litter and all of his teeth have gone on like this. The whole mouth looks like a shark, double teeth everywhere. Adults coming in and small puppy teeth getting pushed out. His mouth is just very hard and the gums wont let the teeth go. He lost a couple yesterday in the back, on the tug.
He has had plenty to chew on, Nylabones and raw knuckle bones, nothing helped but time. His ears are up now that the majority of the puppy teeth are gone. I think the ear issue has some to do with pain tollerance too. Thats just my take on that, no scientific data to back it up.
I have a showline bitch with soft ears. They stand but when she runs, you can see them bend. None of my other dogs have this. This is my take on an adult with soft ears that stand. I would breed such a dog to one I knew had very good stout ears. I have seen all of her progeny and no floppy ears in 4 litters. I didn't have her as a pup so do not know when her ears errected or if they needed taping. Weird thing, she has the smallest ears out of all my dogs. The guys with the tall ears have no softness. I have seen dogs with very larg ears that don't stand but I now know size of the ear isn't the only issue to look for.
