My perception is that he wasn't such a great producer of hips himself, but some of his progeny have been the best of hip producers in thier own right.

Daryl, I think you hit the point about the Fero's hip production. Also, his hip production was very possibly better than many other reknown studs because he was so heavily used. And of course, one-half (1/2) of his progeny's hip quality was influenced by the dam of choice.

I always thought history was a bit unfair towards him-I thought he was an excellent dog.

Hi my friend in Kansas City has a Fero son that is 12 and still in great shape considering. He got one of the last breedings of Fero. I know that Asko has a dysplastic hip.

I had quite few Fero progeny. Crossed on a Lewis daughter he brought me bad hips, elbows, and over-sharp to the point of un-trainable. Of course I sold that litter to some of the heaviest htters in the sport. Not one made it to the trial field. :(((

To meet Fero in person, let me just say he was NOT a dog you would be tempted to reach out and pet, and you would be wrned NOT to do so. He was hard, sharp and aggressive even into his senior years. He brings that to his progeny even yet, but I always caution people to consider the hardness already present in their lines, and most particularly the nerve base they have, before considering line-breeding on that dog, especially through Troll.

I did own Brix Laimabcktal. He was a wonderful dog; sure nerves, hard, yet easy to live with , great with kids, other dogs, puppies,  and a joy to work. He guided me through my very first trial at the tender age of nine, earning a passing score despite being out of training for years and saddled with an idiot for a handler. LOL I only regret I didn't have a decent titled female to breed to him in the year or so between when I got him and when he ceased to be fertile. I am told his daddy, Boris Trogenbach, was one of the hardest dogs who ever lookd through a collar.

One of these days when its nasty outside I will go through my pix and post a few of old Brixi. I did post a comment on his pedigree on this site.

Thanks all to shared the great info.  I have really learned a lot.  Shelly I would love to see pics and Don thanks for posting your link--he was a beautiful dog.............The girl I am looking at is out of a Fero son, Pedro von der Kine--his pic is not on here but you can search Dekka-Haus Kennels and see him there.  He is a full brother to but not littermate , Gothliff (spelling) von der Kine.  On her mother's side she goes back to Casper vom Espental and then on thebottom Orkan v Heidetal.  Her grandmother and great grandmother and grandfather were OFA Good but no titles.  As I remember her--she was only a year old then--she was larged boned, dominant, strong, nice head and earset.  Again thanks for sharing........

I forgot to add, I have her half sister--they have the same mother and the sire side is all German showlines..........anyway she is a firecracker when it comes to bitework--actually doing anything.  She is 8 1/2 and blk/tan..........
