" (no one told me it had to be the stud owner who picks first...)"

What?? Who told you they do?? That is something to be agreed upon before the breeding. My business partner and I reserve pick male and female for ourselves always, always, always..... the litter is ours......For instance, the stud owner is taking a puppy from our next litter, we will probably relinquish one of our picks since we aren't planning on keeping anything ourselves (at this point, anyway)..but that is our decision and we will discuss it further as time goes on....

I also would not have used a different stud if it wasn't one I had planned on using or was ok with.. once again, you paid for the services of stud X and you were not given those services.. is Stud Y going to give you what you want??

I would ask you if the agreement  was made for the same terms as the 2nd stud....

Ha, no one is ever gonna tell you when their stud is overused.. that again is our responsibility, to ask questions.... I like to know how often he is used and how often he is tested for bacteria and infection and sperm quality. If it ticks someone off, that's fine.. there are lots of fish in the sea, as they say!!

hope you get a good litter out of it!!

Stud fees were the same for both dogs??

Howdy,

I can only tell you how it works on this side of the pond ....... if you go to a stud and pay the agreed stud fee, the pups are yours, period. If the stud owner wants a pup out of that breeding, you pay no stud fee, just as simple as that. If the breeding did not take, you are entitelt for a re-breeding at no cost. If the female does not take the second time you are out of luck, no refund, no rebreeding. (Neverless most stud owners will give you a third try at less cost). But that can be difficult sometimes if you choose a very busy stud.

Once again, DKiah hits it right on ...... the litter whelped are my pups, and if i want to keep one, i will have the first choice, absolutly no doubt about that, unless you agreed upfront to something different to beginn with.

Did i get that right, you choose a stud, payed for service, your female didi not take, had annother stud and payed again and on top of this hassle the stud owner wants first pick ? I guess one can try, but i know for sure i would have a good laugh on him.

Anyways, aperently your bitch carrys and hopefully delivers a good, healthy litter and i wish a lot of fun & pleasure with it. Regards Ulli Dresbach

Sign the papers and don't repeat the breeding.

I think the pup died yesterday SHe tried to kill it and it was too small  one bite and gone....Im never saying  yes  to another ,   knew I shouldnt have but the sweet lady with three kids wanted a litter.....I guess we all have a breaking point and this one was awful for the owner of the female...she wanted the live one to be what my stud was, but now that we wont ever know.....My big guy went through a lot of arguing with the female for three days only to be told now that his AI was successful but his kids didnt make it...He looked at me with a cocked head just now and doesnt have a clue what I just told him   ...this female was quirky and very agressive at all times...Ive bred many females and never seen one llike this   All females have a way with the male , and all of them can be bitchy, but this one had a seizing nasty fight from the get go....never letting the male finish his duty.....and I wasnt taking a chance of ruining my male......I only bred what I purchased from the titled dogs I purchased from for my own litters and never wanted to ever do outside breeding any way....I''ll pinch myself , the next time someone asks and refer them on...I believe a stud owner must look at llitter before signing the papers, as I have heard of horror stories about llitters born that were not he breed that the stud was intended , and again that goes to not breeding with people who do not meet the requirement or that you are not fully trusting of........and then again even the best kkl or 11 female/male can produce a fluke or not be the greatest of mothers to a litter......thanks to the generations before her or him., as one great breeder reminded me over and over......

What a sad story......... Shame on peopel not thinking prior of the risk of breeding, and then beeing overwhelmed and the pups suffer. Oh, well, maybe it was for the better...

You said it.... I knew better  I guess my heart took over my brain  Ive never offered stud service  , I dont like the hassle, inspecting the female, her pedigree, and making people mad when u tell them only to approved ofa, titled or working lines only one generation out of titling and have to have the B test , and pay up front and all the rules and by the time u make them mad, no thank you , but I did this once before and we wont even touch that story, and I felt this family needed some improvement in head structure and did not get the whole story, caught me when my son had medical problems , and i was distracted and agreed to breed, signed the contract and she ofad good and did the B test and then the project went sour....never again....Leave that to the others that have more patience and a vet on hand at all times,,,,,,,Im tooo old for this now......just realized this ....I will stick to my own breeding and whelping......I know what they will do.....She is going to give the mom away to a family....???????and raise Pugs....ha ha  really Im not kidding.....
