There are 2 forms of diabetes: mellitus (Type 1 1nd 2) and insipidus. The former involves insulin (produced by the pancreas) and is chacterized by hyperglglycemia, polyuria, and polydipsia.
I doubt that diabetes insipidus (only P/U and P/D) can be diagnosed by a routine hemogram/chemistry. Adults with untreated DI may remain healthy for decades as long as enough water is drunk to offset the urinary losses.
DI involves the pituitary's production of Antidiuretic Hormone (ADH) and may reflect either pituitary or renal pathology and usually requires a series of diagnostic tests.
Occasionally, DI may include "pathogenic polydipsia" (which may be differentially diagnosed by a water deprivation test) and consists of habit drinking and no other detectable disease.

I drank way too much last night. I'm really feeling the pain right now. This is going to be a long Friday the 13th
