Sunny, I fail to see the point you are trying to make. Are you saying Yasko was not US bred and hence of no use to the breeding here? Or are you saying the USA/NASS winners should be considered over Yasko? Please explain. I think Dog1 has put it very correctly - it is upto the breeders here to make full use of him.

by yasko man on 25 November 2004 - 08:11

Yasko was brought to the U.S. for 1 reason. To provide North American breeders to breed to a world class German Sieger. From a financial standpoint leaving him in Germany would have been far more rewarding.Hopefully as many people as possible will take advantage of this opportunity, but if not thats ok too.You can lead a horse to water... thanks to everyone for your kind words and praise of this magnificent dog.To everyone else cheer up Yasko loves you too.Happy Thanksgiving.

Howededo, I mean, providing that the agent and owner have the same vision, to give breeders the opportunity to breed their own Larus in the USA. No more and no less. Happy Thanksgiving to you too Mr. Yasko man. Let's hope we all live to see the day.

HI sunshine, lighten up, will ya ?? As to Larus....if you do have contacts to german breeders, listen around...... As far as i heared Larus has his little diffuculties with making the stud.....like running away from a growling bitch etc...... A fool who thinks it has anything to do with it that the judge who made him VA1, happens to be the breeder !! Yasko is a great dog, so take as it is......i do believe Larus is a great dog too !! I did own a Lafer vo Batu son. (brother to LArus) It was probably the best looking GSD i ever owened, but i had to put him down at the age of 8 month because of a ellbow problem. poor thing could hardly walk... See.....there will be always something " better " come around the corner.....just got to look for it !! Happy Thanks Giving to all of you from Germany ! Former KC,KS resident......GO CHIEFS !!!

Let's analyze a few points. It's an important topic that directs the future of the GSD in the US.This is not necessarily directed to Yasko. This can apply to Kevin and any top producing male that's imported. "Sorry, but look at the predecessors... do you see any of the benefactors of these other great dogs still around?" Nope, we don't see much from some of the best stud dogs ever imported. Jello for instance. Don't see much from him here. You see it all in Germany. He produced some excellent dogs there before he came here. We didn't use him because so and so had him and all sorts of reasons. We missed the opportunity. Like the dog or not, you can't deny what exists today from him. There was no other stud dog equal to him available in the US. "It is kind of hypocritical from the one or other commentator above to import the first placed dogs at the latest shows but on the same line adamently defend the breeding in this country and the contribution Yasko will make to this breed here." I fail to see the hypocrisy??? He's proven himself in Germany at the world level. He excels in production and performance. No matter what you think of the dog. You cannot deny what exists. The record is there. It's living evidence, not theory. His contribution in the US depends on how he is used. This will be up to the breeders. "I want to see a VA1 dog that is bred and raised in the USA at the USA or NASS Siegershow. What do you want to see?" I want to see a good dog. I'm really not concerned about what soil it happened to be deposited on at birth. US, Germany, Holland, Moon,,,,unimportant. A good dog is a good dog. US breeders have a loooooonng way to go to produce the quality with a pedigree behind it to rival what's being produced elsewhere. Part of the problem is reluctance to use other males. This mentality is a stumbling block for us. The US is a Me, Me, Me, country. Just look at the internet. The majority of the breeders in the US have a stud dog. An average stud dog by comparison. Yet the claims are. He's multiple this and that, best blood lines, richest pigment, produces better than himself, puppies will do schutzhund, search and rescue, police work, and leap tall buildings with a single bound. He's perfect for all females. All the females from that kennel are bred to him. Certainly some good dogs can be produced this way. However there is NO, repeat NO, kennel program in Germany competing at the top level in Germany that has this breeding concept. Successful breeders there use dogs they feel are best for their female. No matter who owns it. The great males that make their way here are a gift. Their owners will never recoup the cost of the dog. The dog simply will not live long enough to do this. When Linda imported Urban, Sherman imported Kevin, Yasko man imported Yasko and any one else imports a top male. With one or two exceptions, They do it knowing there will be a tremendous financial loss. They are not motivated by greed or money, not at all. They want the best for what ever reason. It's available for a fraction of what it would cost to own and keep the dog.

Hello SUNSHINE -- [ you fit your site name by the way :-) ] HHHMMMM --- yasko a good dog .. well yes ...and a very very good dog at that .. BUT i think some should read your words and LISTEN to what you are trying to communicate !!! now this is for the advanced reader ... did you follow all of yasko's progeny ??? even in this country -- did you watch ALL , not just a few , but ALL the offspring ..how did they perform and how did they place in all the usa shows ?? [ from my quick overview .. not a great showing with yasko ] . and did you follow all the offspring in other countries too ??? do you know also not just the genotype but also the phenotype that is /was being produced ?? do you know the good and the deletieruos traits within hthe lines linebreeding ?? you may not think that he is that stud for you / or the usa .. he is of some value to breed to --he was bred in gemany -- but there is more to breeding than just the hot ticket outlook ... there are other great VA dogs to breed too .. someimes a VA 5 dog can throw fantastic progeny too ... !! and the VA -8 dog this year could turn out when he matures to be even the greatest producer .. not to mention that ... hey - let's be honest -- the politicing wehen it comes to the show .. -- and how money can taint our htoughts and actions ,... And come on now -- it is the pairings that matter --- the complements too that make the difference -- and in a breeding progeram -- i cannot prove this empirically but only from experience -- the FEMALE/ DAM is the most important of the two !! if you agrue with me here then i would suggest you really get some breeding experience first .. -- now for germany .. this is my opinion -- they are already 3 or more generations ahead in the planning ..--- so even if one thinks let's breed to the best -- well people have moved beyond yasko ..-- so in summry let us be thankful we do have a quality dog like yaske to breed to ... he has his merits for sure -- but let's keep this in perspective too now --

Alphapup, If you could hear it, you could hear me clapping my hands..... Yes, i totaly agree, the most important is the dam. And yes, if you have a good dam that has proven to have good & healthy pups and you have the opputunity to mate her with a Top-Dog....more power to you !! ( that is, if the bloodlines, colour etc. would be a good match ) To mate 2 dogs just because they achieved something will not bring us any further !!! Well, excuse my bad english.

Yasko is a beautiful dog but personally, I prefer Ursus' type. BTW, the kennel name is Fleischerheim, Bill's last name is Fleischer.

by HOWDEDO on 25 November 2004 - 19:11

Dog1, The breeding concept of keeping one male and mating all your females to him is standard practice in couple of other breeds I was/am involved in. It used to be common in India too when I lived there. Don't know whether that has changed. My belief is that it is the "economy of scale" that is behind it. If you have a large breeding organization, you want to minimize cost wherever you can and end up mating most of your bitches to your male. To justify your own extensive use, you also advertise that he is superman, and that 90% of your 6 week olds are "top show quality". The smaller breeder is at an advantage. He usually can decide to use a wider range of dogs at comparitively affordable rates.

Dog1, in reference to Kevin, why did you say Sherman and not Tracy? Just curious.
