Yep you made the point, which was given to you last week lol.
Best of luck Pete, but remember - theorising badly then training badly will ALWAYS result - badly.

Of course that dog with that type of willy nilly, helter skelter bite training will bite someone if the situation arises... he would more than likely take a bite out of a kid in a snowsuit also, AND, i don't doubt the dog would step over the kids sleds lying in the path too,
But you know what, it totally boggles my mind how many people involved with this breed Don't really know the breed and the dogs AT ALL!
If your dog will not come to your defence, WHEN actually needed, without speciality training, something is wrong!
One of the most basic ideals of the breed, from the git go!

stable, couragious dogs can be working in defence without any problems, weak dogs with high prey can block and drop out of prey when confronted with some treaths,or untrained situations, so it is all a matter of balance
the leader of a group of lions is pushed into defence a million times without breaking him down a bit, when protecting his prey, defending himself or his breedingrights he MUST adress his defence skills
todays sportdogs are never pushed into a position were defence have to kick in , nobody challenges his foodbowl , breeding is served on the best day of heat and in sport there is nothing that really challenges a dog anymore after a zillion repetitions, biggest pressure comes from handler of dog
so DEFENCE is a basicpart of every well balanced animal same as prey is

Why should the sport dog owner need to push their dog into defence a zillion times like a leader of a lion pack?
Why should the sport dog stud fight for breeding rights when the bitch owner paid thousands for a breeding and shipped the bitch across the country for a mating on Wednesday in line with 40 other bitches waiting to get in for a mating with same dog.
When will the dog kill his own meal and have to protect it from a pack of starving hyenas?
When will the sport dog ever have to fight for his life in an unfamiliar situation?
Why would the sport dog owner expose his/her dog to any of the above if they purchased the dog for success at sport and invested hundreds of training hours and thousands of dollars to compete to a set of criteria on a judges score card.
Please tell me why.
Let's see what is left of your defensive dog by the time it has got thru the obedience and tracking training to perform at high level IPO.
If a sport dog is not what you want, don't buy one or breed one. How hard is that?
No expert but I don't send a hound to do terrier's work and I don't send a terrier to fetch a shot duck.

where much larger amount go to law enforcement and other jobs where a little more is asked from a dog than having a calm grip on a sleeve
