4pack

by 4pack on 29 December 2008 - 15:12

It is rare for it to hit freezing at night here, happens and handfull of times a year. However has been happening more frequently. 10-14 nights a year, so much for global warming. We just wrap the pipes and cover the plants outside. Dogs water buckets don't even freeze more than a super thin film over the top that the dogs can push with their noses. The dogs stay outside on these nights as well. I have some super dog houses I wish I could find more of. They look like square igloos and are very well insulated, I also pack them with pine shavings and the dogs buoild nice little nests in them.

Here in southwestern Pennsylvania it can sometimes go as low as -10 F, which is about -23 C.  That is not real common but we get to 0 F at least once every winter, that's about -18C.  I like the cold and snow, especially when sitting by a nice crackling fire!

Here in Northeast Pennsylvania it is currently 1C. We have already been below 0 Farenheit several times this winter, & will be down to 7F later this week, with significant wind chills. Our dogs stay inside. I stay inside. I used to love the cold & the snow, but I never really felt cold, & I would run around without heavy clothes on....but now....BRRRRR! I shiver too much, & Carl & I use each other & 2 down comforters to stay toasty. When it gets really cold, why-- it's a 4 dog night!jh

We are finishing up two weeks of very cold weather and snow, not our usual chilly rain.  The weather people said it was the coldest longest since 1990.  Daytime highs of about -4C (25F).  Night time lows of -9C (15F).  My dogs spend most of their time in the house so it's been too cold for extended time outside.  Water buckets frozen solid at the house and worse at all the barn areas.  I couldn't find the heated bucket either darn it, it's out there somewhere........  And now I have to rebuild the kennel roof as the bows and tarps could not stand the weight of the snow and caved in.  No dogs were in there, it's just a pain thinking about a rebuild though.

Normal is wet, rain, and somewhere around 4C (40F)
