Thanks, gee. In case you missed it, here's a pic of that dog's grandsire when I was training him...I raised him from a nine week old pup and trained him, titled him schh l . The vid of otto, that was only the second time I ever worked him with a decoy.

OK. I didn't do defense with the dog doing the side transport till he was twelve months. He rather eat the decoy and spit him out than bite the sleeve. Even in that pic you can see he is eyeball efing the decoy.
His sons and grandsons are just like him. Def a genetic component. Def strong nerves and can take pressure.

Missed the action. Just took my dog to the restaurant and she had a pound of boneless white meat chicken oven roasted and a pound of boneless oven roasted pork; it was gone in seconds. And now Im chilling with a blunt of that good Jamaican Sh#%$.
So Joan, what component are you saying was genetic?

with todays trainingmethodes we see all buildup in bitework possible to be trained without a helper present starting at 8 weeks of age, guarding is a sit exercise, transport is a heeling exercise, and bark in the blind trained on a ball, bitework is preybite on a pillow
the top people in germany started to see problems with these dog and even train for the dogs to bark at helper without sleeve and than give preybite as reward, a simple pavlov buildup to make it look like the dogs have civil agression
also what I personally see a lot these days when testing IPO rejects so to speak (for policework)is that they are whipped to hell and back in their buildup and look like they have civil agression,, but that is gone as soon as you loose the whip or stick

Duke said it well in his post.
One last word the oldchool breeds have nothing to do a more defense dog is not in balance,,
some people here have to realise( not Duke) that today the modern training methods and sport is made for
high prey drives (dogs)breeds...........!!!!! Look on all the podium places last years FCI
all breeds etc I know some people who have stand with a bouvier FCI all breeds on that podium
long time ago listen to their stories about earlier training and today maybe some people here one day will wake up.
My last experience in the IPO was in 2014 doing some decoy work on a club in Holland have seen enough its not my cup of tea with all the respect for the IPO sport fans here
will not making friends that is never my intention its about personal opinion
and experience.
