So the key is to keep some lines that are capable and not meant for the wannabe pet owner....there are plenty of those dogs around every corner.

by vk4gsd on 28 April 2014 - 20:04

Joan from what i here the ghetto in US have already got that dog. evolution has been on crack literally in that subculture and they got the best dog for the role, it doesn't come with AKC or SV papers.

Relax dude I was just trying to have some fun. Don't get a stroke over petty stuff!! I have had the honor of working and training Police K-9's for 34 years now. I don't care for mali's nor will I select one for a class I am to instruct as well. You might call me prejudice, but I dealt with many during my military career as a dog handler and have nothing good to say about them at all. JMO!!

Vk, where do you get your information ? I suppose there are nasty dogs to be found most anywhere, but you miss the point. We were talking about German shepherd dogs, not mutts that have been force fed crack.

by vk4gsd on 28 April 2014 - 21:04

All good deacon, just part of the fun. you do seem to be a shrinking almost belligerent minority if you wholesale discount the mal as a service dog it is to me an obviously laughable position to hold in light of the known facts re breed utilisation in the services across the globe.

but hey if you got some awesome line if gsd you can tap into more power to you.

i will put down a deposit directly.

care to share some vids of your own?

by joanro on 28 April 2014 - 21:04

Vk, why put a deposite on a good gsd, you said yourself the ghetto already has the dog........created through evolution with crack. LOL.

Sorry no Vid's at this time. I don't even own one, shows you how out of date I am!! I know the mal is a good breed for the type job I do. I see it quite a lot when judging recertifications and weekly training. I just have a chip on my shoulder I am not willing to poke off.

I saw in the mid 80's, 90's and early 2000's a dramatic increase in the breed being used, but lately the GSD has been making an awesome comeback, and I for one am pleased to see it!!

Deac don't get me wrong i love my gsd but not in a blind faith religion kind of way. My love is actually for the working dog any dog that is good enough is good enough.

i won't even ask the breeder of my next dog for papers or peds, history of health tho yes.

I hate to but have to agree with Joan.

HD I agree with everything you said but you lost me at:".... Malinois is THE breed as far as work..." that is where I turn around and run. As far as I am concerned Malis are OK for some work,  but you put Good GSD against Good Mali and Mali will look like a sick  caricature of working dog.  Joke really. So why not to work on improving GSD? Downgrading to Mali's is step down by itself.  Step into abyss of no return.

Of course you will not agree with me Hans, its your breed and i dont blame you, but, i also feel tbe Malinois is better because its my breed.
How many GSDs will we have to look at Hans to find that one good one?
With malinois, if they survive birth, 90% of them will work. Now understand that as i say this, i also own a young GSD who i think its great, but, its not a Malinois.
