Hey First I say: "Celebrate the differences" And Sweetpea, should you ever want to meet my Zuni, you'll know one SHOW dog which will take your sleeve off, spit it out, and go after you some more LOL. After that, he'll turn around and come back to me all cool calm and collected. OH, not schutzhund trained, strictly personal protection. He qualified for DUAL PURPOSE and yes, that is somewhat rare for a showline dog. Great write up D.H. ! (as always) Oh yeah, Mittelwest, I've heard only good things about them.

Wow, glad I was bored and looked at this post because the title is misleading. Brittany- This is not a personal attack but robbers in geneeral do not use silencers, thats only in TV. Secondly- most PD's do not buy titled dogs. They buy what is called a green dog, meaning it has obedience, has some bite work. Then they train them up. Not to say that some departments don't want a titled dog as I have had some that request that, but cost, Age and years of service left in them usually rules buying titled dogs, on average PD's want the dog between 1 1/2- 2 years old so they can get there time out of the dog. Poor dog that drowned- That is a tradgedy, you have no idea of the bond that forms between a K-9 handler and his dog. You spend more time with your dog then you do with your spouse. He is your partner, companion on long nights, your backup, someone you stake your life on. The Handler made a descion based on the circumstances and his departments policy. The dog is a tool that everytime you deploy it he may not come back a live. Looseing a K-9 partner usually devastates not only the handler but his or her family as well. So don't second guess this guy as having no common sense. They are what protects you at night when you are sleeping. How many dogs you know will stay on a bite till they drown. Personal protection dogs- hey like anything some are good some aren't. Just because it does not have a SCH title doesn't mean there is anything wrong with it. My police patrol dog would not do bark and hold, he did recall beutifully. So not all dogs fit in a nice cookie cutter world. Does not make them less of a dog. No I have not seen a dog worth 30k. But as said before, people will pay anything and if you can get it good on you. I also would say i have never seen a pen worth 5k but saw one for sale at the airport in Kuwait that cost that much. Someone will buy it. Working lines, show lines too each his own. Appreciate the dog for what it can do, not for what it can't. It would be a very boring world if everyone liked the same thing, we would never have these big long discussions. thats my 2 cents Mike

Gina (saoa) This is not meant to be a personal attack against you and to burst your bubbles but if Zuni is good as you say he is... why don't you enter him for the nationals and possible universal sieger? When I go to your site all I see are SG, BH and dual purpose... It doesn't tell me much. It's ok to brag... I do it all the time with Zambi... However to persuade people that it is the truth... Enter that dawg in! ;)

EDD in Afgan great post!!!!! Brittany just because a dog has a ScH title doesn't mean that dog is working in aggression in protection. Alot of dogs have ScH titles and they think the whole thing is a game. You act like ScH is the be-all-end-all on how a dog should be evaluated but ScH isn't what it once was.

for many high drive dogs the sleeve is the same as the fake bunny the greyhound goes for on the track. Throw away the sleeve and see if the dog keeps staring/barking at the sleeve or keeps eyeing the helper... Very different dogs, very different use for it. Would not want the one that keeps its eye on the sleeve for police or home protection. But it may get top points. Not much good when you have someone break into your house and they steal everything, including your top dog. BTW, there are separate police dog trials, with their own National event. IF a K9 handler has the time to train for it and go there. Curious Brit, when is your dog getting her first title? She should have had her SchH1 right at 18 months, shouldn't she!!!!! And we will be looking for you two at the Nationals next year for sure. Both show and SchH that is, since she is such a great little doggy, she can do it all. And so can you ;o).

Mysti, Before you take anyones word on a breeder, get out there and see what they are producing. Mittelwest has many dogs that win in the show ring and also just had a dog win Universal Sieger.Which is a contest where both working lines and show lines compete. But then on the other hand they have many dogs that fail the bitework at every show. Sounds to me like they have good and bad. Your job is to weed through all of the BS and find what you are looking for. Even if you buy the best pick of the litter and it has the most super conformation and movement in the world, if it fails bitework it can go nowhere.

Have you thought about going to another club Brittany? There are a couple in South Florida, aren't there? Your club is pretty active isn't it? What's everyone else doing?

by mad on 28 February 2006 - 02:02

HELLO..............what does this have to do with Mittelwest Kennels.....is that not the topic!!!!!

by Betty on 28 February 2006 - 03:02

Well mad, actually nothing. But I'm sure you are already aware of that and I certainly do apologize for adding to your, well, madness. I always thought the easiest way to steer a topic back to the original posters subject would just be to simply post on it. So, what do you think of Mittelwest Kennels? Since you want to keep on topic how about contributing to the thread instead of chastising?
