Thanks for the great videos everyone.

It's great to read a completely positive thread (no fights)! LOL

I just had a chance to watch this and does anyone have any idea where it might have been?  I'm asking because one of the handlers and the lady that served the beer at the end look like the photos I've seen of my Grandparents!   The age and time frame is right for it, too.  My grandfather raised and trained GSD's in Germany prior to WWII (sometimes for the military).  My grandmother worked as a bar maid in those days, too.  They lived near Munich in 1936 and my Mother told me several stories about her father winning all types of awards for his dogs and how much trouble she used to get in for playing on the dog's equipment (especially the climbing wall).  We don't have any family records of his dogs (just a few handwritten notes without details) and only a few photos of him from that time (everything was lost during the War).   So what a surprise.  I'm going to show the video to my brother to see if he remembers anything more (my Mom passed a couple of months ago so I can't ask her).

Whether it's them or not, great video!

Melissa:  That is very cool.  In the photos you have are there any of his dogs?

DUKE:  I don't think that video on the Bouvier page is working.  If anyone can get it to work, please tell me how, I'd love to see it.

Oh, I do hope it's them, Melissa!

Sue,

Sadly, we don't have photos of his dogs.  The only one that's even close only has part of the dog's leg in it.   I'll see my brother over the weekend and show him the photos.  He lived with my grandparents for almost 7 years (he was born in Munich in 1943 and is actually my half brother) and does remember one of my grandfather's dogs from his childhood, Rolf.  Rolf was a very special dog to the family, he used to guard/babysit my brother when he was just a baby.  The family story is that soldiers came to the house one day to take my brother away (this was when Hilter was gathering the babies for his "super race") when it was just my brother and Rolf at home.  They broke down the door but then had to get past Rolf to get to my brother.  Apparently, Rolf was just too much for them.  When my grandmother got home the door was busted, stuff was torn apart all over the room, Rolf was bleeding and my brother was sound asleep in his crib.  Neighbors told my grandmother that they could hear the racket and that the soldiers said it wasn't worth it and they'd say no one was there.  We do know that they came back a couple of days later when my grandmother was home and she told them that she'd let Rolf loose if they didn't leave.  They did leave and did not come back (the family moved shortly after).  My grandfather had been sent to the Russian front about that time.

My mother talked about the story often and it's the one story of my grandfather's dogs that was told to me over and over again when I was little.  Having a parent that grew up in Germany prior to and during WWII really gave me a different perspective of the people from that time.  BTW my grandfather stopped training dogs for the Military during WWII because he didn't like what they were asking them to do.  He believed that GSD's were to be our companions and protectors not something to be feared and so many of the dogs were being used to create fear.

Well, I showed the video to my brother and he agrees that the lady at the end serving the 4 beers does look very much like my Grandmother and could be her.  The man earlier on he wasn't as sure about but he had a good point, if she was there, he probably was as well.  He's going to download the video and take it to his studio (he's a photographer) and see if he can clean it up more with his restoration equipment to see if he can pull some stills off it.

Melissa,

Thanks for sharing a bit of facinating family history.

Melissa Why don't you email the person that posted it on Utube and see what they can tell you?
