What should we be looking for?
Stone tablets
The next thing to notice is that the tablets were made of stone. To the Children of Israel, this was surely a reflection of God’s never-changing nature: 1)His promises are forever. 2)Morality is a constant. It was a reassurance that they could depend on Him, no matter what happened. Perhaps it was a depiction of the Law as being, if I may, the cornerstone of their faith in God.
If the stone tablets with the 10 Commandment can be called the cornerstone of the Jewish faith, and Christ became the Law in flesh form, then it explains Psalm 118:22, “The stone which the builders rejected, this became the chief cornerstone.” Recall when God lamented in Jeremiah 31:32 about “My covenant which they broke, although I was a husband to them.” They (i.e., the builders) rejected the Law (i.e., the stone which is Christ). So, God said of future generations, “I will put My law within them, and on their heart I will write it.” As John 1:1 and Matthew 5:17 demand that we apply these verses to Christ, we see that the rejection of Christ is the fulfillment of Jeremiah 31:32, the gospel is the fulfillment of Jeremiah 31:33, and together they are a fulfillment of Psalm 118:22. Hence, we have Christ’s acknowledgement of these truths, when He quotes Psalm 118:22 in Matthew 21:24.
One last thing to notice about the tablets: God made them twice. God sent the Law to His people the first time, but Moses destroyed the tablets when he saw the Israelites with the golden calf. They had rejected God’s law even before Moses could give it to them, so he broke the tablets. However, God gave Moses a second set. It was the same Law, the same covenant, but different tablets. The Law they rejected the first time was sent to them again. By applying John 1:1 (Christ is the Law), Matthew 5:17 (Christ fulfills the Law), and Matthew 21:24 (Christ was rejected and is now the chief the cornerstone) to this series of events, we see here a further depiction of the coming of Christ. The first time Christ came, the people killed Him (destruction of the 1st set of tablets). Christ rose from the dead (the second set of tablets), then ascended to Heaven to be at the right hand of the Father (the placement of the tablets in the Ark). Today, we don't where the Ark is, but we know the tablets are in it. One day perhaps, the Ark will be discovered and brought once again in a temple built in Jerusalem (there are rumors that a select few have figured out where the Ark is!). Similarly, Christ will also appear again one day, though we know not when. But, we do that where He is now, He is at the right hand of Father's throne. The return of the stone tablets however will be very different from Christ's return. The return of the stone tablets can only mean defeat for Israel, as it sets the stage for the Anti-Christ to desecrate the temple. Christ's return however will be in victory over the Anti-Christ. If you're awaiting the rebuilding of the temple, don't await the stones (or stone tablets) the builders use; await the Stone they have rejected...Jesus!

Amazing huh ? I love it, I love it, I love it. History that is.
I think I need a glass or two of wine now.
