Kraftwerk K9 DVD - Jump Prevention and Open Door Control. This video shows how anyone can teach their dog not to jump on them and others in less than ten minutes. The method demonstrates how to apply the opposite reflex theory. Ask the dog to jump up and he will not..!! This video also demonstrates how to teach dogs not to run through open doors without permission. This should help you out! Jeff

Gsdlvr2 BEWARE!!! If you listen to most of these people you will be looking for a new puppy! Besides the fact that she is a FEMALE,if you start correcting her like you are advised too,get these peoples numbers so they can buy her when you ruin her. Let her be a freak for a little while, raising a serious working dog isn't easy! Especially a female!!! If you want an average dog to fool around with, fine, but your first post said an over the top dog! So do what most people dont do,following what everyone else does will lead you to having an everday dog.Control and manners is for housepets at this stage.

Let your puppy jump all over you. Let your puppy jump all over anyone that comes within 10 feet of them. When the pup knocks someone down. Let them get up before letting the pup knock them down again. Don't correct out ambition you can't put back in.

Egsd, You and I AGREE !!! Yeah there is hope for me yet ? I absolutely agree with you and Dog1 ! :-) I too have been warned about correcting the young GSD puppy who is wanting and willing and confident enough to jump on complete stranger, corrections of this kind can be detremental at puppy stage, However later on introduction of public manners can be taught easily without dammaging confidence. Did I get that right Egsd ? ( I'm smiling )

Don't totally agree as my working female is not handler senstative at all and never was. Of course alot of females are that way. One thing I do is when I first approach a pup is walk around for a minute and ignore them, even if they jump on me I just keep moving around like I'm busy. After a minute I kneel down and let them jump on me but softly have them sit, it is a progression but soon they will run up to me and sit and I never had to correct them.

In public your puppy should be on a leash, so jumping on strangers shouldn't be a problem. You have to get them out to socialize but when people approach to pet the puppy, I always tell them she may bite, jump or scratch you. Let the puppy approach you, do not go to her. If they are ok with her doing any of this, they can then be a part of her socialization. I always make it clear, "do not correct my dog or tell her no". A choke chain on a puppy is going to squash it's drive. I agree, if you want that OVER THE TOP dog, don't correct. Puppies are meant to be spazes. Redirect redirect redirect, would you spank an infant? No, you redirect the bad behaviour. Don't put them in the situation to get in trouble. Teach the sit and down with food. Before you know it, they are sitting at your feet, looking up at you, ready for the next command, for that piece of yummy. :)

I think you would be best advised to ask for the invaluable advice of a certain lady. Shares the first name with a well known pop star with great legs.
