She's a patterned sable. And a pretty one, I might add. Beautiful face.

That's why the term "Pattern Sable" sounds funny to me.

Did you have her as a puppy, or do you have puppy pics? Pretty easy to tell, then.
GSDGenetics, OP said black sable, not black.

Sable is a pattern of the hair shaft, as in banded vs a solid pattern hair shaft. Black and Tan is a whole coat pattern as is brindle, or a solid only one color. Do not be confused that a solid color is then an all over pattern showing in a single color.
Hexe has it correct.

This one is a Sable pattern dog with bi-color marking.
This one is a Sable pattern dog with Blanket back marking.
Now, show me a Sable pattern ADULT dog who doesn't have either a Bi-color, Blanket back or Saddle back marking.
All dogs who are born Sable pattern are just that, "Sable pattern", nothing else. If we don't need to add a prefix to describe a Bi-color Sable pattern or a Blanket back Sable pattern, and can call them just "Sable", we also don't need a prefix for Saddle back Sable pattern, at least not that ridiculous sounding "Pattern Sable Pattern".

The hair splitting difference becomes necessary when you equate the bicolor and saddles as the same, visually. Which they are not.

Ok beetree, I got your point.
A Saddle back Sable is a "Pattern Sable Pattern" and a Saddle back Tan-point is a "Pattern Tan-point Pattern".
And the word "Pattern", when used as a prefix, actually means "Saddle back".

Patterned sable is agouti guard hairs on otherwise solid body color..Tan point pattern includes chest bar, tan eye brows, tan muzzle, tan legs without tarheel or pencil toe marks, body is blanket saddle as in this dog pictured
